IMAP MCP Server

Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
IMAP_MCP_READ_ONLYNoWhen truthy (`1`, `true`, `yes`, `on`), only the safe, read-only tools are registered — searching, reading, listing folders, unread counts, spam analysis. No tool that sends mail, deletes/moves messages, changes flags, or edits accounts is exposed.
IMAP_MCP_ENABLED_TOOLSNoComma-separated allowlist of tool names — only these are registered. Names are case-insensitive and the `imap_` prefix is optional (`search_emails` ≡ `imap_search_emails`). When set, it takes precedence over `IMAP_MCP_READ_ONLY`.
IMAP_MCP_ACCOUNT_<NAME>_IMAP_PASSWORDNoOverrides the IMAP password of an already-configured account at runtime. Keyed by the account name uppercased with non-alphanumeric characters replaced by `_`. Applied in memory only and consumed at startup; set before launching the server.
IMAP_MCP_ACCOUNT_<NAME>_IMAP_USERNAMENoOverrides the IMAP username (`user`) of an already-configured account at runtime. The variable name is keyed by the account name, uppercased with every non-alphanumeric character replaced by `_` (e.g. an account named `Work Gmail` yields `IMAP_MCP_ACCOUNT_WORK_GMAIL_IMAP_USERNAME`). Applied in memory only and consumed at startup; set before launching the server.
IMAP_MCP_ACCOUNT_<NAME>_SMTP_PASSWORDNoOverrides the SMTP password of an already-configured account at runtime. Keyed by the account name uppercased with non-alphanumeric characters replaced by `_`. Takes effect only when the account already has an SMTP config. Applied in memory only and consumed at startup.
IMAP_MCP_ACCOUNT_<NAME>_SMTP_USERNAMENoOverrides the SMTP username (`smtp.user`) of an already-configured account at runtime. Keyed by the account name uppercased with non-alphanumeric characters replaced by `_`. Takes effect only when the account already has an SMTP config. Applied in memory only and consumed at startup.
