Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
MCP_DATA_DIRNoThe allowed root folder for the filesystem tools. Defaults to your home directory ($HOME, or %USERPROFILE% on Windows). To change the root from the start: `MCP_DATA_DIR=/other/path npm start` (or `set MCP_DATA_DIR=D:\work` then `npm start` on Windows cmd).
PUBLIC_ORIGINNoOptional non-default variable configured via the .env file (`cp .env.example .env`). Used when you need an owned public origin instead of the Tailscale Funnel URL.
GROK_CALLBACK_PREFIXNoAllowlisted callback prefix for Grok's OAuth redirect_uri (e.g. `https://grok.com/connectors-oauth-exchange-code/`). Set this to allowlist a new Grok callback if a future Grok change moves it; otherwise registration is rejected with `register REJECTED (redirect_uri not allowlisted)`.
