piia-engram
Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| DO_NOT_TRACK | No | Set DO_NOT_TRACK=1 to turn off the anonymous daily usage ping. | |
| ENGRAM_TOOLS | No | Controls which MCP tools are loaded. 19 Core tools are loaded by default; set ENGRAM_TOOLS=all to opt in to the additional 40 Advanced tools. | |
| ENGRAM_SEARCH | No | Search mode. Keyword search is the default; set ENGRAM_SEARCH=hybrid (requires 'pip install "piia-engram[vector]"') to opt in to hybrid retrieval with FTS5 full-text plus a semantic vector layer. Can also be enabled by engram setup. | |
| ENGRAM_APPROVAL | No | Approval policy for writes. Set ENGRAM_APPROVAL=strict to gate every write; by default high-risk items (credentials, shell commands, MCP config, permission rules) wait for review while low/medium writes are auto-absorbed but auditable and reversible. | |
| ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK | No | Set to 1 to turn off the daily PyPI newer-version check performed by the engram command in interactive terminals and on each engram doctor run. |
