Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
GODOTNoAlternative environment variable holding the path to the Godot executable, consulted after GODOT_MCP_GODOT in the engine resolution order.
GODOT4NoAlternative environment variable holding the path to the Godot executable, consulted after GODOT_MCP_GODOT in the engine resolution order.
GODOT_PATHNoAlternative environment variable holding the path to the Godot executable, consulted after GODOT_MCP_GODOT in the engine resolution order.
GODOT_MCP_GODOTNoAbsolute path to the Godot 4.7+ executable. Highest-priority way to tell the server which engine to use (resolution order: tool param `godot` → GODOT_MCP_GODOT → GODOT_PATH/GODOT4/GODOT → bundled tools/ → /Applications/Godot.app → PATH). Because the MCP client spawns children with a scrubbed environment, this path is normally written into the client config's `env` block. Explicitly given paths are strict: an invalid path errors out instead of silently falling back to another Godot version.
GODOT_MCP_HELPER_DIRNoExplicit directory for the nested-process helper scripts. Normally `user://mcp_tmp` with an automatic fallback to the system temp directory (needed under sandboxed/read-only HOME); set this to pin the location.
GODOT_MCP_RUNTIME_FORCENoSet to `1` to force the runtime bridge (TCP 127.0.0.1:9091) to listen in release/exported builds. By default release builds do not listen; this opt-in is for deliberately debugging a shipped game remotely.
