Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
QGIS_MCP_HOSTNoHost for the socket connection to the QGIS plugin.localhost
QGIS_MCP_PORTNoPort for the socket connection. The QGIS plugin reads it too: set in the environment QGIS is launched from, it overrides the port saved in the plugin's dropdown for that window.9876
QGIS_MCP_TOKENNoOptional shared secret. When set (in both the QGIS environment and the MCP server environment), the plugin rejects any command without a matching token. Required when the plugin binds to a non-loopback address.
QGIS_MCP_LOG_FILENoLog file path (empty to disable).~/.local/share/qgis-mcp/server.log
QGIS_MCP_INSTANCESNoAddress several running QGIS windows from one server, as comma-separated `name=port` or `name=host:port` entries (e.g. "default=9876,planning=9877,archive=lab-box:9878"). Unset by default. Not supported with QGIS_MCP_TOOL_MODE=compound.
QGIS_MCP_LOG_LEVELNoFile log level.INFO
QGIS_MCP_TOOL_MODENo`granular` (125 tools) or `compound` (27 grouped tools). Compound mode reduces schema overhead but loses `instance=`, typed parameters and per-tool annotations.granular
QGIS_MCP_TRANSPORTNoMCP transport: `stdio` or `streamable-http`.stdio
QGIS_MCP_AUTO_CONFIRMNoConfirmation elicitation on destructive tools is skipped by default, since clients already ask before running them. Set to `0`/`false`/`no`/`off` to elicit anyway - worth it only for a client that runs tools unattended.on
QGIS_MCP_TOOL_PROFILENo`all` (125 tools), `read-only` (44 tools) or `core` (24 tools): a subset of the granular tools, keeping typed parameters and annotations. Combining a profile with QGIS_MCP_TOOL_MODE=compound is refused.all
