Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| HOST | No | The host/interface Hatchdoor binds to. Local source runs default to 127.0.0.1:42824; a non-loopback bind (e.g. 0.0.0.0) requires HATCHDOOR_WEB_BEARER_TOKEN. | |
| VAULT_PATH | No | The vault folder Hatchdoor can see inside the container. This is not the location of any particular vault: nothing in it becomes a Vault until you add one, and a fresh install starts with no Vaults. | |
| HOST_CACHE_PATH | No | Optional host-side location for the generated SQLite cache, mounted at /data/cache. Defaults beside the Compose project. | |
| HOST_STATE_PATH | No | Optional host-side location for the authoritative Vault registry, mounted at /data/state. Must be created and writable by the image's numeric nonroot user (65532) before the first managed-Vault start. | |
| HOST_VAULT_PATH | No | Host path to your Markdown vault, mounted at /data/vault. The default mounts an empty vault folder beside the Compose file; uncomment and set it to use an existing vault. | |
| HOST_MODELS_PATH | No | Optional host-side location for downloaded search models and the local Gemma terms receipt, mounted at /models. Defaults beside the Compose project. | |
| HATCHDOOR_DEMO_MODE | No | Set to true to run a read-only, unauthenticated instance for public browsing. Has no rate limiting of its own, so put a rate-limiting reverse proxy in front before exposing it publicly. | |

| HATCHDOOR_WEB_BEARER_TOKEN | No | Bearer token for the web UI and HTTP API. Hatchdoor refuses to start on HOST=0.0.0.0 or another non-loopback bind unless this is set; on refusal it prints a fresh, recoverable token and the .env line to add. | |
| HATCHDOOR_USAGE_REPORT_ENABLED | No | Optional telemetry, off unless set to true. Sends the maintainer one small daily report of how the install is set up, and nothing about your notes. |
