## Test Organization Principles
### Why Functional Domains?
**Before** (Tool-based):
- `basic.test.ts` - Mixed auth, project, file, execution tests
- `commonjs.test.ts` - Only CommonJS tests
- `search.test.ts` - Only search tests
- `extended.test.ts` - Mixed deployment, errors, performance
**After** (Functional domains):
- Tests grouped by **what they test** (lifecycle, files, search, modules, execution, deployment, errors, performance)
- Easier to find related tests
- Better test isolation
- Clear test execution strategy
- Improved maintainability
### Standardized Patterns
All test files follow consistent patterns:
1. **Imports**:
```typescript
import { expect } from 'chai';
import { MCPTestClient, AuthTestHelper, GASTestHelper } from '../../helpers/mcpClient.js';
import { globalAuthState } from '../../setup/globalAuth.js';
import { TEST_TIMEOUTS } from './testTimeouts.js';
```
2. **Setup/Teardown**:
```typescript
before(async function() {
this.timeout(TEST_TIMEOUTS.EXECUTION);
// Setup with global auth check
});
after(async function() {
this.timeout(TEST_TIMEOUTS.STANDARD);
// Cleanup test projects
});
```
3. **Test Structure**:
```typescript
describe('Functional Domain Tests', () => {
describe('Subcategory', () => {
it('should perform specific test', async function() {
this.timeout(TEST_TIMEOUTS.STANDARD);
// Test implementation
});
});
});
```

## Future Enhancements (Phase 2)
### Planned Test Additions
1. **Git Integration Tests** (20+ tests) - MCP Gas Git Tools Only
**Focus**: Test MCP tool behavior (`mcp__gas__git_*`), NOT git itself
**Approach**: Verify MCP tools create correct files, handle parameters, return proper responses
**A. local_sync Tests** (7 tests)
- Tool with direction="sync" pulls GAS files to local
- Tool with direction="pull-only" only pulls (no push)
- Tool with direction="push-only" pushes local to GAS (after pull)
- Tool returns file change summary (added/modified/deleted counts)
- Tool handles empty project (no files to sync)
- Tool fails gracefully without prior git_init
- Tool respects forceOverwrite parameter
**B. config (sync_folder management) Tests** (6 tests)
- Get sync_folder: Returns current path from .git/config.gs
- Set sync_folder: Updates .git/config.gs with new path
- Returns hasGitLink=true for projects with .git/config.gs breadcrumb
- Returns hasGitLink=false for non-initialized projects
- Returns syncFolder path from configuration
- Returns repository URL from configuration
**Key Test Principles**:
- **MCP Tool Validation Only**: Test tool parameters, responses, GAS file creation
- **No Git Command Testing**: Assume git/gh commands work (not our responsibility)
- **File-Based Verification**: Verify .git/config.gs content via gas_cat
- **Error Response Testing**: Verify tools return proper MCP error responses
- **Integration Points**: Test tool parameter passing, not git merge behavior
2. **Advanced Edit Operations** (10+ tests)
- gas_edit exact matching
- gas_aider fuzzy matching variations
- Token efficiency validation
- Multi-edit operations
3. **Project Context Management** (8+ tests)
- project_set, project_get
- Environment switching
- Auto-pull behavior
- Context resolution
4. **Sheet SQL Operations** (12+ tests)
- SQL-style operations on Sheets
- SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
- Complex queries
- Range operations
5. **Helper Method Extraction**
- Common test patterns to GASTestHelper
- Reduce code duplication
- Improve test readability
