# Git Metadata Filtering Fix - Summary
## Problem Solved
The Git integration was syncing Git metadata files (.git/, .gitignore, etc.) to Google Apps Script, causing:
1. Project corruption (GAS API returning 400 errors)
2. Bidirectional sync failures
3. Unnecessary clutter in GAS projects
## Solution Implemented
### 1. Added Git Metadata Filtering
**File**: `/Users/jameswiese/src/mcp_gas/src/tools/gitIntegration.ts`
**Key Changes**:
- Added `GIT_METADATA_EXCLUSIONS` constant with patterns to exclude
- Created `shouldSyncFileToGAS()` function to filter files during sync
- Updated `syncLocalToGAS()` to skip Git metadata files (line 756)
- Modified `listLocalFiles()` to skip .git directory entirely
- Commented out `syncGitConfigToGAS()` calls to prevent _git.gs creation

### 2. Cleanup Capability
- Manual cleanup using `gas_rm` to remove `_git` and `_gitignore` files
- Successfully tested on corrupted projects
## Test Results
### Clean Project Test
- Created fresh project: `Git Integration Test Clean` (1d3SegHpHlTQ54U7ISofKGUI5JwOf8BOgkWO3xB0iQ-sy3xa8KC1qWn5v)
- Added test files in Git repository
- Verified filtering works: content files sync, Git metadata excluded
- Successfully removed old `.git` virtual file
### Verification Script
Created test script that confirms:
- ✅ Regular .gs files are synced
- ⏭️ .git/ directory contents are excluded
- ⏭️ .gitattributes, .gitignore are excluded
- ⏭️ .env files are excluded
- ⏭️ *.log files are excluded
## Benefits
1. **No More Corruption**: GAS projects remain clean and functional
2. **Proper Separation**: Git metadata stays in Git, code stays in GAS
3. **Bidirectional Sync Works**: Content files sync properly without interference
4. **Easy Cleanup**: Existing corrupted projects can be cleaned
