# REAPER MCP Codebase Cleanup Report ## Summary After scanning the entire codebase, I've identified several unused files, obsolete code, and organizational improvements needed. ## Files to Remove ### 1. Obsolete Lua Files - **`lua/mcp_bridge.lua`** - Socket-based bridge, replaced by `mcp_bridge_file_v2.lua` - **`lua/Untitled/`** - Contains REAPER project files (.RPP) that shouldn't be in version control ### 2. Unused Python App Variants - **`server/app_modern_modular.py`** - Experimental modular version, not used - **`server/app_modern_simple.py`** - Experimental simple version, not used - **`server/app.py.backup_20250712_113058`** - Backup file ### 3. Backup/Old Files - **`tests/conftest_backup.py`** - Backup of conftest - **`tests/test_integration_new_tools.py.bak`** - Backup file - **`tests/test_recording.py.old`** - Old version of recording tests ### 4. Obsolete Directories - **`generated_api/`** - Old monolithic API approach, replaced by modular `tools/` structure ### 5. Misplaced Test Files (in root instead of tests/) - **`test_bridge_functions.py`** - **`test_bridge_version.py`** - **`test_modern_pattern.py`** - **`test_quick.py`** - **`test_summary.py`** ### 6. Duplicate/Outdated Test Files - **`tests/test_bounce_render_operations.py`** - Old version, superseded by `test_bounce_render.py` - **`tests/test_time_tempo_extended_new.py`** - Appears to be an experimental version ### 7. Unused Python Module - **`server/tools/track_basic.py`** - Only imported by unused `app_modern_modular.py` ## Files to Keep ### Important Files That Look Unused But Are Actually Needed - **`server/tools/bridge_sync.py`** - Used by 6 new tool modules for synchronous operations - **`server/bridge.py`** - Core async bridge implementation - **All test files in tests/ directory** - Even if they look similar, they test different aspects ## Code Quality Findings ### ✅ No Issues Found With: - Unused imports in active files - Dead code paths (`if False:`, etc.) - Duplicate function definitions - TODO/FIXME comments indicating unfinished work ### 📁 Documentation Files (Could Be Consolidated) Currently have multiple implementation status files: - `IMPLEMENTATION_MASTER.md` - Main comprehensive list - `IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md` - `IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS_COMPLETE.md` - `IMPLEMENTATION_PROGRESS.md` - `EXPANSION_SUMMARY.md` - `FINAL_IMPLEMENTATION_SUMMARY.md` Consider consolidating into just `IMPLEMENTATION_MASTER.md` and `README.md`. ## Recommendations 1. **Run the cleanup script** to remove identified unused files 2. **Move test files** from root to tests/ directory 3. **Consolidate documentation** into fewer, clearer files 4. **Add .gitignore entries** for: - `*.bak` - `*.old` - `*_backup*` - `*.RPP` (REAPER project files) - `*.RPP-bak` ## Statistics - **Total files to remove**: 16+ files - **Disk space to reclaim**: ~200KB (mostly small files) - **Test files to relocate**: 5 files - **Documentation files that could be merged**: 4-5 files ## Next Steps 1.
