# Requirements Document
## Introduction
This specification addresses the need to increase test coverage for the MkDocs MCP Search Server codebase. The current patch coverage is 83% with 153 lines missing coverage across multiple critical files. The goal is to achieve comprehensive test coverage that meets or exceeds the project's quality standards while focusing on core functionality and critical paths.
## Glossary
- **Test_Coverage_System**: The Jest testing framework and coverage reporting infrastructure used to measure code coverage
- **Source_Module**: Any TypeScript file in the `src/` directory that contains implementation code
- **Test_Suite**: A collection of test cases organized in a `*.spec.ts` or `*_test.ts` file
- **Coverage_Threshold**: The minimum acceptable percentage of code coverage (branches 25%, functions 50%, lines 55%, statements 10%)
- **Critical_Path**: Code execution paths that handle core functionality, error conditions, or edge cases
- **Mock_Object**: A test double that simulates the behavior of real dependencies
## Requirements
### Requirement 1
**User Story:** As a developer, I want comprehensive test coverage for the SearchIndexFactory module, so that I can confidently refactor and maintain search index creation logic.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes tests for SearchIndexFactory, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 90% line coverage for the SearchIndexFactory module
2. WHEN the SearchIndexFactory creates a search index from valid data, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify the index structure and searchability
3. WHEN the SearchIndexFactory encounters invalid index data, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify appropriate error handling
4. WHEN the SearchIndexFactory processes different index formats, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct parsing and transformation
### Requirement 2
**User Story:** As a developer, I want thorough test coverage for the mkdocsMarkdownConverter module, so that I can ensure HTML-to-markdown conversion works correctly across various input formats.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes tests for mkdocsMarkdownConverter, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 90% line coverage for the mkdocsMarkdownConverter module
2. WHEN the mkdocsMarkdownConverter processes HTML with code blocks, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct markdown code fence generation
3. WHEN the mkdocsMarkdownConverter encounters malformed HTML, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify graceful error handling
4. WHEN the mkdocsMarkdownConverter processes nested HTML structures, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct markdown hierarchy
### Requirement 3
**User Story:** As a developer, I want complete test coverage for the versionDetection module, so that I can ensure version parsing and validation works reliably.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes tests for versionDetection, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 85% line coverage for the versionDetection module
2. WHEN the versionDetection module parses valid semantic versions, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct version object creation
3. WHEN the versionDetection module encounters invalid version strings, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify appropriate error responses
4. WHEN the versionDetection module compares version numbers, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct ordering logic
### Requirement 4
**User Story:** As a developer, I want adequate test coverage for the fetch-doc module, so that I can ensure document fetching and processing works correctly.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes tests for fetch-doc, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 80% line coverage for the fetch-doc module
2. WHEN the fetch-doc module fetches a valid documentation URL, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct content retrieval and conversion
3. WHEN the fetch-doc module encounters network errors, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify appropriate error handling
4. WHEN the fetch-doc module processes cached content, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify cache hit behavior
### Requirement 5
**User Story:** As a developer, I want comprehensive test coverage for error handling classes, so that I can ensure custom errors provide meaningful information.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes tests for VersionErrors, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 90% line coverage for the VersionErrors module
2. WHEN a VersionError is instantiated with error details, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct error message formatting
3. WHEN a VersionError is thrown and caught, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify error properties are accessible
4. WHEN different VersionError types are created, THE Test_Suite SHALL verify correct error classification
### Requirement 6
**User Story:** As a developer, I want improved test coverage for remaining modules with gaps, so that I can maintain high code quality standards across the entire codebase.
#### Acceptance Criteria
1. WHEN the Test_Suite executes all tests, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 90% line coverage for server.ts
2. WHEN the Test_Suite executes all tests, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 95% line coverage for IndexCache.ts
3. WHEN the Test_Suite executes all tests, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 95% line coverage for VersionManager.ts
4. WHEN the Test_Suite executes all tests, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 95% line coverage for searchMkDoc tool
5. WHEN the Test_Suite executes all tests, THE Test_Coverage_System SHALL achieve at least 98% line coverage for logger.ts
