# Implementation Summary: Data Optimization for AI Agents
## Overview
Implemented comprehensive data optimization features to reduce token consumption and improve usability for AI coding agents. The implementation addresses the problem of overwhelming data volumes from browser sources by adding intelligent truncation, selective filtering, and pagination support.
## What Was Implemented
### Solution 1: Intelligent Data Truncation ✅
**Configuration System:**
- Added configurable size limits in constructor:
- `MAX_HTML_SIZE`: 50KB
- `MAX_TEXT_SIZE`: 30KB
- `MAX_DOM_NODES`: 500 nodes
- `MAX_CONSOLE_MESSAGES`: 50 messages
- `MAX_NETWORK_REQUESTS`: 50 requests
- `MAX_REQUEST_BODY_SIZE`: 10KB
- `MAX_RESPONSE_BODY_SIZE`: 10KB
**Utility Functions:**
- Enhanced `truncateString()` with size indicators
- Enhanced `truncateDOMTree()` with node counting
- All truncated responses include metadata about truncation
### Solution 2: Selective Data Extraction ✅
**New Filtering Utilities:**
- `filterConsoleMessages()` - Filter by log level, search term, timestamp
- `filterNetworkRequests()` - Filter by method, status, resource type, domain, failed status
- `filterDOMBySelector()` - Target specific DOM elements via CSS selectors
- `filterDOMTree()` - Exclude script and style tags
**Enhanced Tool Parameters:**
#### `get_console_messages`
- `logLevels`: Filter by ["error", "warn", "info", "log", "debug"] (default: ["error", "warn"])
- `searchTerm`: Search message content
- `since`: Filter by timestamp
- `pageSize`: Results per page (default: 50, max: 200)
- `cursor`: Pagination cursor
#### `get_network_requests`
- `method`: Filter by HTTP method (GET, POST, etc.)
- `status`: Filter by status code(s)
- `resourceType`: Filter by resource type (xhr, fetch, script, etc.)
- `domain`: Filter by domain substring
- `failedOnly`: Only return 4xx/5xx responses
- `pageSize`: Results per page (default: 50, max: 200)
- `cursor`: Pagination cursor
- `includeResponseBodies`: Include response bodies (truncated at 10KB)
- `includeRequestBodies`: Include request bodies (truncated at 10KB)
#### `get_dom_snapshot`
- `selector`: CSS selector to target specific elements
- `maxDepth`: Maximum tree depth (default: 5, max: 15)
- `maxNodes`: Maximum nodes (default: 500, max: 2000)
- `includeStyles`: Include computed styles (default: false)
- `excludeScripts`: Exclude script tags (default: true)
- `excludeStyles`: Exclude style tags (default: true)
### Solution 3: Streaming & Pagination ✅
**Pagination System:**
- `paginationCursors` Map to store pagination state
- `generateCursor()` - Creates pagination cursors with 5-minute TTL
- `paginateData()` - Handles cursor-based pagination
- Automatic cleanup of expired cursors
**Pagination Response Format:**
All paginated responses include:
- `data`: Current page items
- `count`: Items in current page
- `total`: Total matching items
- `hasMore`: Boolean for more pages
- `nextCursor`: Cursor for next page (null if done)
- `filters`: Applied filters
- `message`: Human-readable status
**Intelligent Defaults:**
- Console messages: Default to errors and warnings only
- Network requests: Sort failed requests first
- DOM snapshots: Exclude scripts and styles by default
- All tools: Sensible page sizes balancing detail and performance
## Files Modified

1. **Constructor** (lines 24-58): Added configuration constants and pagination cursor storage
2. **Utility Methods** (lines 103-274): Added filtering, pagination, and DOM manipulation utilities
3. **Tool Schemas** (lines 276-958): Updated all tool input schemas with new parameters
4. **Tool Implementations**:
- `getConsoleMessages()` (lines 1704-1763): Full rewrite with filtering and pagination
- `getNetworkRequests()` (lines 1765-1892): Full rewrite with filtering and pagination
- `getDOMSnapshot()` (lines 1618-1741): Enhanced with selector filtering and exclusions
5. **Tool Call Handlers** (lines 1068-1139): Updated to pass new parameters as options objects
6. **Duplicate Schemas in handleToolsList** (lines 681-958): Synchronized with main tool schemas
## New Features
### Smart Defaults
- Console messages return only errors and warnings by default
- Network requests sort failed requests first
- DOM snapshots exclude scripts and styles automatically
- All tools have sensible size limits preventing overwhelming responses
### Filter Composition
Multiple filters can be combined:

### Pagination Workflow
1. Initial request returns first page with `nextCursor`

- Truncation indicators
- Pagination state
- Human-readable messages
- Original vs. returned counts
## Testing

- ✅ All tool schemas valid
- ✅ Parameter passing correctly implemented
- ✅ Backward compatibility maintained (all new params optional)

## Future Enhancements (Not Implemented)
Potential improvements for future iterations:

## Backward Compatibility
✅ All changes are backward compatible:
- New parameters are optional
- Default behaviors preserve existing functionality
- Enhanced responses include all previous data
- Tool names and core signatures unchanged
## Migration Guide
No migration needed! Existing usage continues to work. To benefit from new features:

The implementation dramatically reduces data volume while maintaining flexibility and usability for AI coding agents.
