`get_network_stats()` - Network interface statistics ## File & Storage Operations ### High Priority - **Advanced File Operations** - `set_permissions(path, mode)` - Change file permissions - `get_file_info(path)` - Detailed file metadata (size, dates, permissions) - `find_files(pattern, directory)` - Search for files by name/pattern - **Archive Operations** - `create_archive(files, output_path)` - Create tar/zip archives - `extract_archive(archive_path, destination)` - Extract archives - `list_archive_contents(archive_path)` - View archive contents ### Medium Priority - **Disk Management** - `get_directory_size(path)` - Calculate directory sizes - `find_large_files(directory, min_size)` - Find files above size threshold - `get_mount_points()` - List mounted filesystems - **File Content Operations** - `grep_files(pattern, directory)` - Search file contents - `file_diff(file1, file2)` - Compare two files - `backup_file(source, destination)` - Create file backups ## Development & Build Tools ### High Priority - **Version Control** - `git_status(repo_path)` - Get git repository status - `git_log(repo_path, count)` - Show recent commits - `git_diff(repo_path)` - Show working directory changes - **Environment Management** - `list_python_environments()` - Show virtual environments - `create_virtualenv(name, python_version)` - Create new virtual environment - `install_package(package, environment)` - Install packages in specific env ### Medium Priority - **Build & Test Operations** - `run_tests(directory, framework)` - Execute test suites - `build_project(directory, build_tool)` - Run build commands - `check_dependencies(project_path)` - Analyze project dependencies ## Network & Security ### High Priority - **Network Information** - `get_ip_address()` - Get system IP addresses - `test_connectivity(host, port)` - Test network connectivity - `get_dns_info(domain)` - DNS lookup information ### Medium Priority - **Security Operations** - `check_open_ports()` - Scan for open ports - `get_firewall_status()` - Show firewall configuration (read-only) - `check_ssl_cert(domain)` - Verify SSL certificate status - **User Management** - `list_users()` - Show system users - `get_user_info(username)` - User account details - `check_sudo_access(username)` - Verify sudo privileges ## Automation & Scheduling ### Medium Priority - **Cron Management** - `list_cron_jobs(user)` - Show scheduled cron jobs - `validate_cron_syntax(expression)` - Validate cron expressions - `add_cron_job(user, schedule, command)` - Add new cron job - **Background Tasks** - `run_background_task(command)` - Execute long-running commands - `get_task_status(task_id)` - Check background task progress - `list_background_tasks()` - Show running background tasks ### Low Priority - **File Monitoring** - `watch_file_changes(path)` - Monitor file/directory changes - `setup_file_trigger(path, action)` - Execute actions on file changes ## Database & Application Support ### Low Priority - **Database Operations** - `check_database_status(type)` - Check if MySQL/PostgreSQL is running - `backup_database(name, type)` - Create database backups - `list_databases(type)` - Show available databases - **Container Management** - `list_containers()` - Show Docker/Podman containers - `container_status(name)` - Check container health - `container_logs(name, lines)` - Get container logs - **Web Server Support** - `check_webserver_status()` - Verify nginx/apache status - `validate_config(server_type)` - Check web server configuration - `get_access_logs(lines)` - Retrieve web server access logs ## Implementation Considerations ### Security Model - **Permission Levels**: Categorize functions by risk (read-only, modify, administrative) - **Command Whitelist**: Maintain allowed command list for `execute_command` - **User Context**: Run operations with appropriate user privileges - **Audit Logging**: Log all administrative operations ### Error Handling - **Graceful Failures**: Handle missing dependencies, permission errors - **Informative Messages**: Provide clear error descriptions - **Rollback Capability**: For operations that modify system state ### Configuration - **Feature Toggles**: Allow enabling/disabling function categories - **Resource Limits**: Prevent resource-intensive operations from hanging - **Timeout Management**: Set appropriate timeouts for long-running operations ### Dependencies - **Optional Features**: Gracefully handle missing system tools - **Version Compatibility**: Support different Ubuntu/Linux distributions - **Package Detection**: Automatically detect available system tools ## Contribution Guidelines When implementing new features: 1. **Security First**: Consider security implications of each function 2. **Error Handling**: Include comprehensive error handling 3. **Documentation**: Provide clear function documentation and examples 4. **Testing**: Include test cases for new functionality 5. **Backwards Compatibility**: Maintain compatibility with existing functions ## Future Considerations - **Plugin Architecture**: Allow third-party extensions - **Remote Operations**: SSH-based remote system management - **Configuration Management**: Integration with Ansible/Chef/Puppet - **Monitoring Integration**: Export metrics to Prometheus/Grafana - **Multi-Distribution Support**: Extend beyond Ubuntu to other Linux distributions --- *This document is a living specification.
