# TypeScript to Python Migration Summary

**Status**: ✅ Complete
## Overview
The BookStack MCP Server has fully migrated from TypeScript/mcp-framework to Python/FastMCP. The TypeScript server is now deprecated and all documentation has been updated to reflect this change.
## What Changed
### 1. Primary Server
- **Old**: TypeScript server in `src/` directory with 25 individual tools
- **New**: Python FastMCP server in `fastmcp_server/` directory with 6 consolidated tools
### 2. Tool Architecture
- **Old**: Individual CRUD tools (e.g., `bookstack_create_book`, `bookstack_update_page`)
- **New**: Consolidated tools with operation parameters:
- `bookstack_manage_content` - unified CRUD for all content types
- `bookstack_list_content` - list with filtering and pagination
- `bookstack_search` - full-text search
- `bookstack_batch_operations` - bulk operations
- `bookstack_manage_images` - image gallery CRUD
- `bookstack_search_images` - advanced image search
### 3. Documentation Updates
#### Updated Files
- ✅ `README.md` - Added deprecation notice, updated quick start, listed all Python tools
- ✅ `package.json` - Added deprecation notice in description
- ✅ `HTTP-TRANSPORT.md` - Added deprecation notice at top
- ✅ `docs/Tool-Consolidation-Plan.md` - Marked as completed
- ✅ `docs/FastMCP-Migration-Plan.md` - Marked migration as complete
- ✅ `src/index.ts` - Added deprecation warnings in code and console output

- ✅ `src/DEPRECATED.md` - Comprehensive deprecation notice with migration guide
- ✅ `MIGRATION-SUMMARY.md` - This file
## How to Use the Python Server
### Installation
```bash
cd fastmcp_server
pip install -r requirements.txt
```
### Configuration
Set environment variables in `.env`:

BS_URL=https://your-bookstack.example.com
BS_TOKEN_ID=your_token_id
BS_TOKEN_SECRET=your_token_secret
```
### Running
```bash
# HTTP transport (default, port 3054)
python3 -m fastmcp_server
# Or run directly

## Benefits of Python FastMCP
1. **Fewer Tools**: 6 consolidated tools vs 25 individual tools (76% reduction)
2. **Better Schemas**: Automatic JSON Schema generation from Python type hints
3. **Easier Maintenance**: Single codebase with comprehensive test coverage
4. **More Features**: Batch operations, advanced filtering, better error handling
5. **Active Development**: All new features and bug fixes go to Python server
## TypeScript Server Status
- ❌ **No longer maintained**
- ❌ **No new features**
- ❌ **No bug fixes**
- ⚠️ **May be removed in future release**
