- Realm IDs (KNOWN_RETAIL_REALMS, KNOWN_CLASSIC_REALMS)
- Cache TTL settings
- API limits and defaults
- Redis key patterns
- Error messages
- **`config.py`**: Created Pydantic-based settings management
- Environment variable validation
- Type-safe configuration
- Feature flags support
- **`service_manager.py`**: Centralized service initialization
- Redis connection management
- Supabase client initialization
- Activity logger setup
- Clean initialization/shutdown lifecycle
- **`tool_registry.py`**: Tool registration pattern
- Category-based organization
- Metadata tracking
- Discovery capabilities
### 2. Tools Package Structure (✅ Complete)
Created modular tools package (`app/tools/`):
- **`__init__.py`**: Package initialization
- **`base.py`**: Base decorators and utilities
- `mcp_tool` decorator wrapper
- `with_error_handling` decorator
- `with_supabase_logging` decorator
- Service initialization helpers
### 3. Character Details Tool Fix (✅ Complete)
- Fixed string attribute errors in `get_character_details`
- Updated to handle both nested dict and direct string formats from Blizzard API
- Comprehensive testing completed
### 4. Tool Extraction (✅ Complete)
Successfully extracted all tools into their respective modules:
#### `guild_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- analyze_guild_performance
- get_guild_member_list
#### `member_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- analyze_member_performance
- get_character_details
#### `visualization_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- generate_raid_progress_chart
- compare_member_performance
#### `auction_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- get_auction_house_snapshot
- capture_economy_snapshot
- get_economy_trends
- find_market_opportunities
- analyze_item_market_history
#### `item_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- lookup_item_details
- lookup_multiple_items
#### `realm_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- get_realm_status
- get_classic_realm_id
#### `diagnostic_tools.py` (✅ Complete)
- test_classic_auction_house
- test_supabase_connection
### 5. Main File Refactoring (✅ Complete)
- Created `mcp_server_fastmcp_refactored.py` using the modular structure
- Imports tools from their respective modules
- Uses the service manager for initialization
- Reduced file size from 2123 lines to 386 lines (82% reduction!)
## Remaining Work
### 1. Testing and Validation (🔄 In Progress)
- Test all tools to ensure they work correctly after refactoring
- Verify imports and dependencies
- Check for any missing functionality
### 2. Migration to Production (🔄 Pending)
- Replace the old monolithic file with the refactored version
- Update any deployment scripts or configurations
- Ensure backward compatibility
## Migration Strategy
### Phase 1: Parallel Structure (Current)
- New modular structure coexists with monolithic file
- No breaking changes
- Gradual migration possible
### Phase 2: Tool Migration
1. Extract one tool category at a time
2. Update imports in main file
3. Test each migration thoroughly
4. Maintain backward compatibility
### Phase 3: Final Cleanup
1. Remove duplicate code
2. Update all imports
3. Simplify main file to just server initialization
4. Update documentation
## Benefits Achieved
1. **Better Organization**
- Clear separation of concerns
- Logical grouping of related functionality
- Easier navigation and discovery
2. **Improved Maintainability**
- Smaller, focused modules
- Reduced coupling
- Easier testing
3. **Type Safety**
- Pydantic configuration
- Proper type hints throughout
- Runtime validation
4. **Service Management**
- Centralized initialization
- Clean lifecycle management
- Better error handling
## Next Steps
1. Complete tool extraction (highest priority)
2. Update main file to use modular structure
3. Add comprehensive unit tests for each module
4. Update deployment documentation
5. Consider adding API versioning support
## Technical Debt Addressed
- ✅ Monolithic file structure
- ✅ Scattered configuration
- ✅ Duplicate constants
- ✅ Mixed responsibilities
- 🔄 Lack of unit tests (partially addressed)
- 🔄 Complex initialization logic (improved but needs completion)
## Code Quality Improvements
- Added proper logging throughout
- Improved error handling patterns
- Better async/await patterns
- Consistent naming conventions
- Enhanced documentation
## Refactoring Results
### File Size Reduction
- **Original**: `mcp_server_fastmcp.py` - 2,123 lines
- **Refactored**: `mcp_server_fastmcp_refactored.py` - 386 lines
- **Reduction**: 1,737 lines (82% reduction)
### Module Organization
- **Total tool modules created**: 7
- `guild_tools.py` - Guild analysis and management
- `member_tools.py` - Character and member analysis
- `visualization_tools.py` - Chart generation
- `auction_tools.py` - Economy and auction house
- `item_tools.py` - Item lookups
- `realm_tools.py` - Realm status
- `diagnostic_tools.py` - Testing utilities
### Tools Extracted
- **Total tools modularized**: 18
- 2 guild tools
- 2 member tools
- 2 visualization tools
- 5 auction/economy tools
- 2 item tools
- 2 realm tools
- 2 diagnostic tools
### Key Improvements
1. **Separation of Concerns**: Each tool category has its own module
2. **Reusability**: Tools can be imported individually or as a package
3. **Maintainability**: Much easier to find and modify specific functionality
4. **Testability**: Each module can be unit tested independently
5. **Scalability**: New tools can be added to appropriate modules without touching the main file
## Next Steps for Production Use
1. **Testing Phase**
- Run comprehensive tests on all tools
- Verify all imports work correctly
- Check for any circular dependencies
2. **Migration**
- Rename `mcp_server_fastmcp.py` to `mcp_server_fastmcp_old.py`
- Rename `mcp_server_fastmcp_refactored.py` to `mcp_server_fastmcp.py`
- Update any scripts that reference the main file
3. **Documentation**
- Update API documentation
- Create developer guide for adding new tools
- Document the modular structure
4. **Continuous Improvement**
- Add unit tests for each module
- Consider adding type checking with mypy
