# Phase 1.1 Implementation Summary: E2E Test Infrastructure Setup
## Overview
Implemented complete Docker-based E2E testing infrastructure for the Mealie MCP Server, enabling isolated, reproducible end-to-end tests against containerized Mealie instances.
## Deliverables
### 1. Dependencies Added ✅
**File**: `requirements-dev.txt`
Added Docker testing dependencies:
- `pytest-docker>=3.1.0` - Docker container management
- `docker-compose>=1.29.0` - Container orchestration
- `python-on-whales>=0.70.0` - Modern Docker Python client
### 2. Docker Compose Configuration ✅
**File**: `tests/e2e/docker-compose.test.yml`
Features:
- Mealie v1.12.0 container configuration
- SQLite backend for fast startup
- Port 9925 (avoids conflicts with dev instances)
- Health check with 20 retries over 2 minutes
- Named volume for easy cleanup
- Minimal configuration for test performance
### 3. Docker Container Fixtures ✅
**File**: `tests/e2e/conftest_docker.py`
Provides:
- `mealie_container` (session) - Starts/stops containerized Mealie
- `mealie_api_token` (session) - Creates test user and obtains token
- `docker_mealie_client` (session) - MealieClient connected to container
- `docker_unique_id` - Unique identifiers for test resources
- `docker_test_cleanup` - Universal cleanup fixture
- Automatic Docker availability checking
- Graceful skip when Docker not available
### 4. MCP Server Lifecycle Fixtures ✅
**File**: `tests/e2e/conftest_mcp.py`
Provides:
- `mcp_server_process` (session) - Starts MCP server as subprocess
- `mcp_client` - JSON-RPC interface for MCP protocol
- `mcp_tool_caller` - Simplified tool invocation
- `mcp_resource_reader` - Resource reading interface
- `mcp_tools_list` - List available tools
Features:
- Subprocess management with stdin/stdout
- Environment variable injection
- Graceful termination with fallback to kill
- Protocol message helpers
