# Naming in AI-Native Tools — 2026 Patterns
## Landscape
MCP Apps render interactive UIs directly inside Claude/ChatGPT chats. Discoverability via directories, GitHub stars, and LLM recommendations. Name = how users AND the AI itself invoke it ("use [YourName] to visualize this").
## Successful Names & Patterns
- **Cursor** — Single evocative word (precision/control).
- **Devin** — Human first-name (colleague/agent feel).
- **v0** — Ultra-minimal, numeric/futuristic.
- **Bolt** — Short, energetic action word.
- **Windsurf**, **Lovable**, **Gamma**, **Perplexity**, **Suno**, **Udio**.
### Core patterns
- **Single-word dominant** (80%+ of breakout hits). Short (4-8 letters), 1-2 syllables.
- Invented / blended / repurposed real words over literal descriptions.
- **.ai or .com** preferred; no hyphens, numbers (except stylistic like v0), or "AI" tacked on.
## MCP Apps Naming Conventions
- Most common: [Brand] + "MCP" or just the brand (GitHub MCP, Notion MCP, Stripe MCP).
- Descriptive: Context 7, Sequential Thinking, Task Master, FastMCP.
- Inventive: 21st.dev Magic, Achriom.
- **No rigid "MCP App" suffix in user-facing names.** Protocol is backend plumbing.
## What's Trending (2026)
| Style | Trend | Examples | When it Wins |
| ---------------- | ------------------ | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Single word | Very high | Cursor, Bolt, Devin, Lovable, Gamma | Memorability, LLM-friendly, global |
| Compound/short | Medium | ElevenLabs, Codeium, Windsurf | Clarity in B2B |
| Invented/blended | High | Perplexity, Udio, Suno, v0 | Uniqueness, trademark |
| Descriptive/long | Low (anti-pattern) | AI Productivity Hub | Avoid — sounds 2023 SaaS |
## Companion vs Tool vs Platform Feel
- **Companion**: Human names or warm abstracts (Devin, Claude, Grok, Lovable). Personality, persistence.
- **Tool**: Action/precision metaphors (Cursor, Bolt, Firecrawl, Task Master). Fast, reliable.
- **Platform**: Broad, neutral (Notion, Supabase, Linear). Ecosystem.
## Anti-Patterns (What Sounds Dated)
- Endings: -ly, -io, -ify, -hub, -cloud, -net, -lab (unless legacy).
- "AI" or "Smart" prefix (overused, signals 2023-2024 wrapper era).
- Long compounds or full phrases.
- Hard-to-spell or pronounce globally.
- Numbers/versions unless stylistic and minimal.
- Overly corporate (Enterprise MCP Suite, Pro Connector).
## Phonetic Qualities That Work
- Easy to say aloud (critical for voice + conversational discovery).
- Distinct rhythm or alliteration.
- Positive or intriguing emotional valence.
- Visually clean in text/chat.
- Trademark-friendly + .ai/.com available.
## Recommendation
- Single evocative word (or very short invented compound).
- Test for: 1) easy pronunciation, 2) positive connotation, 3) domain availability, 4) how it sounds when the LLM says it.
- Should feel "native, not additive" — like it was always meant to live inside Claude/ChatGPT.
