# MCP Test Client - Complete Implementation
## Overview
I've created a comprehensive CLI-based MCP client to sanity test all the tools provided by your MCP GitHub Project Manager server. This test client provides both automated and interactive testing capabilities.
## What Was Built
### 1. Core Test Client (`scripts/mcp-test-client.js`)
- **Full MCP Protocol Implementation**: Proper JSON-RPC communication with the MCP server
- **Comprehensive Tool Testing**: Tests all 30+ tools available in your server
- **Sample Data Library**: Predefined test data for most tools
- **Interactive Mode**: Manual testing with custom arguments
- **Detailed Reporting**: Success/failure reporting with error details
- **Color-coded Output**: Easy-to-read console output with colors
### 2. Shell Wrapper (`scripts/test-mcp.sh`)
- **Environment Validation**: Checks for required environment variables
- **Build Integration**: Can build the project before testing
- **Auto .env Loading**: Automatically loads environment variables from .env file
- **User-friendly Interface**: Simplified command-line interface
### 3. Demo Script (`scripts/demo-test-client.sh`)
- **Interactive Tutorial**: Step-by-step demonstration of all features
- **Educational Content**: Explains what each command does
- **Safe Testing**: Asks before running potentially expensive operations
### 4. Documentation (`scripts/README-test-client.md`)
- **Complete Usage Guide**: Detailed instructions for all features
- **Troubleshooting Section**: Common issues and solutions
- **Extension Guide**: How to add new tools and sample data
## Available Commands
### Basic Commands
```bash
# Show help
./scripts/test-mcp.sh help
# List all available tools (30+ tools)
./scripts/test-mcp.sh list-tools
# Test a specific tool
./scripts/test-mcp.sh test-tool create_project
# Test all tools with sample data
./scripts/test-mcp.sh test-all
# Interactive mode
./scripts/test-mcp.sh interactive
```
### Advanced Usage
```bash
# Build project first
./scripts/test-mcp.sh build
# Run demo tutorial
./scripts/demo-test-client.sh
# Direct Node.js usage
node scripts/mcp-test-client.js list-tools
```
