# MCP NASA Server - Resources and Prompts Implementation
## Current Status
- Version: 0.1.0
- Has 5 working tools (APOD, Mars Rover, NEO, DONKI, EPIC)
- No resources or prompts yet
## Implementation Plan
### Phase 1: Update Server Capabilities ✅
- [x] Update index.ts to add resources and prompts capabilities
- [x] Test server still starts
### Phase 2: Implement Static Resources ✅
- [x] Create resources directory structure
- [x] Implement NASA config resource
- [x] Test static resource
### Phase 3: Implement Dynamic Resources (Templates) ✅
- [x] APOD resource with date parameter
- [x] Rover resource with rover name parameter
- [x] Test dynamic resources
### Phase 4: Implement Prompts ✅
- [x] Create prompts directory structure
- [x] Implement explain-apod prompt
- [x] Implement space-weather-report prompt
- [x] Implement asteroid-analysis prompt
- [x] Test prompts
### Phase 5: Testing & Documentation ✅
- [x] Run full test suite - Build passes!
- [x] Update version to 0.2.0
- [x] Update README with examples
- [x] Update CHANGELOG
- [x] Commit changes
## Summary - COMPLETED ✅
Successfully implemented Resources and Prompts for NASA MCP Server v0.2.0!
### What Was Added:
1. **Resources** - URI-based data access
- 3 static resources (config, missions, NEO today)
- 2 dynamic resource templates (APOD by date, rover photos)
- Full resource handler implementation
2. **Prompts** - Pre-built interaction templates
- Educational: explain-apod
- Analysis: space-weather-report, asteroid-analysis
- Full prompt handler implementation
3. **Documentation**
- Updated README with comprehensive examples
- Added CHANGELOG entries for v0.2.0
- Updated version numbers
### Technical Approach:
- Kept implementation simple and modular
- Followed existing patterns in codebase
- Used existing NASA service for data fetching
- Separated concerns (resources vs prompts vs tools)
- TypeScript builds successfully
### Next Steps (if needed):
- Fix remaining lint warnings (mostly type annotations)
- Add more resource templates (e.g., specific NEO by ID)
- Add more educational prompts
- Consider adding resource caching
- Publish v0.2.0 to npm
## Resource URIs
- `nasa://config` - Static config
- `nasa://apod/{date}` - APOD by date
- `nasa://rover/{rover}/latest` - Latest rover photos
- `nasa://neo/{id}` - Specific NEO details
## Prompts
- `explain-apod` - Educational APOD explanation
- `space-weather-report` - Space weather summary
- `asteroid-analysis` - NEO risk assessment
