# vHAL Property Validation Feature
## Overview
This document describes the new `validate_vhal_property_request` tool that was added to the vHAL MCP Server. This tool implements Android best practices for vHAL property development by validating property requests against the latest Android release (Android 16) and providing recommendations for either using existing properties or creating new VENDOR_ properties.
## Key Features
### 1. Android Best Practices Compliance
- **Existing Property Detection**: Checks if the requested property already exists in Android 16
- **Similarity Analysis**: Identifies similar properties that might fulfill the same requirements
- **VENDOR_ Property Generation**: Creates properly named vendor properties when needed
- **Naming Convention Enforcement**: Automatically prefixes custom properties with "VENDOR_"
### 2. Comprehensive Property Database
- **Extended Android 16 Support**: Includes comprehensive property database for Android 16
- **Multi-Category Coverage**: Supports HVAC, SEAT, LIGHTS, POWER, BODY, and more categories
- **Property ID Management**: Generates unique property IDs in the vendor range (0x70000000-0x7FFFFFFF)
### 3. Intelligent Validation Logic
- **Exact Match Detection**: Identifies exact property matches with 100% confidence
- **Similarity Scoring**: Uses keyword-based analysis to find similar properties
- **Threshold-Based Recommendations**: Provides different recommendations based on similarity confidence
- **Pattern Recognition**: Recognizes common property patterns across categories
### 4. Integration with Existing Tools
- **Code Generation**: Integrates with existing `VhalCodeGenerator` for complete implementation
- **Property Analysis**: Works with `analyze_vhal_implementation` for detailed property study
- **Documentation Links**: Provides references to Android documentation and related tools
## Implementation Details

### Tool Interface
```python
@mcp.tool()
def validate_vhal_property_request(
property_name: str,
property_description: str,
property_type: str = "INT32",
group: str = "VENDOR",
access: str = "READ_WRITE",
change_mode: str = "ON_CHANGE",
units: str = None,
min_value: float = None,
max_value: float = None,
areas: list = None,
enum_values: dict = None,
dependencies: list = None,
sample_rate_hz: float = None,
android_version: str = None
) -> str
```
## Usage Examples
### Example 1: Existing Property Detection
```python
# Request for existing property
result = validate_vhal_property_request(
property_name="HVAC_FAN_SPEED",
property_description="Control fan speed for HVAC system"
)
# Result: Recommends using existing Android property
```
### Example 2: Similar Property Identification
```python
# Request for similar property
result = validate_vhal_property_request(
property_name="HVAC_COOLING_SPEED",
property_description="Control cooling fan speed"
)
# Result: Identifies HVAC_FAN_SPEED as similar, provides options
```
### Example 3: VENDOR_ Property Generation
```python
# Request for new custom property
result = validate_vhal_property_request(
property_name="SEAT_MASSAGE_INTENSITY",
property_description="Control seat massage intensity level",
property_type="INT32",
min_value=0,
max_value=10,
areas=["SEAT_ROW_1_LEFT", "SEAT_ROW_1_RIGHT"],
enum_values={"OFF": 0, "LOW": 1, "MEDIUM": 5, "HIGH": 10}
)
# Result: Generates VENDOR_SEAT_MASSAGE_INTENSITY with complete implementation
```
## Validation Logic Flow
1. **Input Validation**: Clean and normalize property name
2. **Exact Match Check**: Search for exact property in Android 16 database
3. **Similarity Analysis**: If no exact match, find similar properties using:
- Keyword extraction and matching
- Pattern recognition (common property types)
- Confidence scoring based on name and description similarity
4. **Recommendation Generation**: Based on results:
- **Exact Match**: Recommend using existing property
- **High Similarity (>0.7)**: Suggest evaluating similar property
- **Low/No Similarity**: Generate VENDOR_ property
5. **Implementation Generation**: Create complete property implementation when needed
## Android 16 Property Database
The tool includes an extensive database of Android 16 properties across multiple categories:
- **HVAC**: 20 properties including temperature, fan, AC, and advanced climate features
- **SEAT**: 26 properties covering positioning, memory, comfort, and safety features
- **LIGHTS**: 18 properties for interior, exterior, and ambient lighting
- **POWER**: 15 properties for engine, battery, fuel, and power management
- **BODY**: 32 properties for doors, windows, mirrors, and body controls
## Best Practices Enforced
1. **Reuse Before Create**: Always check for existing properties first
2. **Proper Naming**: Enforce VENDOR_ prefix for custom properties
3. **Property ID Management**: Use vendor-specific ID range to avoid conflicts
4. **Documentation**: Encourage thorough documentation of custom properties
5. **Testing**: Recommend comprehensive testing for vendor properties
6. **Compatibility**: Ensure graceful handling across Android versions
## Integration Points
