# Error Translator Tool - Design Document ## Overview A tool that takes error messages, stack traces, or cryptic error codes and finds relevant solutions from Stack Overflow, GitHub Issues, and other developer resources. ## Use Cases 1. **Parse Stack Traces** - Extract key information from error messages 2. **Search Solutions** - Find relevant Stack Overflow answers 3. **GitHub Issues** - Find similar issues and their resolutions 4. **Rank Results** - Sort by relevance, votes, and recency 5. **Extract Solutions** - Pull out actual fix code/steps ## Tool Design ### Tool Name: `translate_error` ### Parameters: - `error_message` (required) - The error text or stack trace - `reasoning` (required) - Why you're investigating this error - `language` (optional) - Programming language context (auto-detect if not provided) - `framework` (optional) - Framework context (e.g., "React", "FastAPI", "Django") - `max_results` (optional) - Number of solutions to return (default: 5) ### Features: 1. **Smart Parsing** - Extract error type/code - Identify key error messages - Parse file paths and line numbers - Detect language/framework from context 2. **Multi-Source Search** - Stack Overflow (primary) - GitHub Issues (secondary) - Official documentation (if available) 3. **Ranking Algorithm** - Score: votes + accepted answer bonus - Recency boost for newer solutions - Relevance matching - Filter out outdated solutions 4. **Solution Extraction** - Show accepted answer first - Include code snippets - Link to full answers - Show alternative solutions ## Implementation Plan ### Phase 1: Core Parser (Now) - Extract error patterns - Identify language/framework - Build search queries ### Phase 2: Stack Overflow Integration (Now) - Search Stack Overflow via SearXNG - Parse HTML/JSON for answers - Extract vote counts - Identify accepted answers ### Phase 3: GitHub Integration (Future) - Search GitHub Issues - Find closed issues with solutions - Parse issue comments ### Phase 4: Smart Ranking (Future) - Implement scoring algorithm - Time-based relevance - Solution quality assessment ## Example Usage ```python translate_error( error_message=""" TypeError: Cannot read property 'map' of undefined at App.js:23:15 """, reasoning="Debugging production crash", framework="React" ) ``` Expected Output: ``` Error Translation Results ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Error Type: TypeError - undefined property access Language: JavaScript Framework: React Top Solutions from Stack Overflow: ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 1.
