# ADR-005: Role-Based Access Control

## Context
AI agent systems require sophisticated access control mechanisms to ensure:
- **Proper Authorization**: Operations performed only by authorized entities
- **Separation of Duties**: Clear separation between different types of operations
- **Audit Capability**: Clear responsibility assignment for all operations
- **Scalability**: Access control that scales with enterprise requirements
Traditional access control approaches are insufficient:
- **Flat Permissions**: All-or-nothing permissions are too coarse
- **User-Based Control**: Individual user permissions don't scale
- **Static Permissions**: Static permissions can't adapt to changing requirements
- **Limited Audit**: Limited ability to track and audit operations
Enterprise requirements include:
- **Role-Based Access**: Access based on job functions and responsibilities
- **Granular Permissions**: Fine-grained control over specific operations
- **Dynamic Authorization**: Authorization that adapts to context
- **Compliance Support**: Support for enterprise compliance requirements
## Decision
Implement a comprehensive Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system with the following characteristics:
### Role Definition
#### ANTIGRAVITY Role (Planning)
- **Purpose**: Architectural planning and design definition
- **Permissions**:
- Read access to all files and documentation
- Create and modify plans
- Analyze existing code and architecture

- No write access to implementation files

#### WINDSURF Role (Execution)

- No access to user code or implementations
- No ability to modify business logic
- No access to sensitive user data
#### AUDITOR Role (Audit)

- **Limitations**:
- No modification permissions
- No access to user code
- No system administration capabilities
