## π Sort Options Explained
### 1. Current Value (Default) π°
**What it shows**: Your biggest holdings first
**For Active Holdings**:
- Sorts by market value (Quantity Γ Current Price)
- See which stocks dominate your portfolio
**For Sold Holdings**:
- Shows what position would be worth if you still held it
- Reveals biggest missed opportunities
**When to use**:
- Daily portfolio review
- Portfolio rebalancing
- Understanding concentration risk
**Example**:
```
1. RELIANCE βΉ2,45,000 (largest holding)
2. TCS βΉ1,80,000
3. HDFC βΉ1,20,000
4. INFY βΉ95,000 (smallest holding)
```
---
### 2. Total P&L π
**What it shows**: Your best and worst performers
**Calculation**: Realized P&L + Unrealized P&L
**When to use**:
- Year-end review
- Finding winners for tax planning
- Identifying losers for tax loss harvesting
- Performance analysis
**Example** (Highest to Lowest):
```
1. RELIANCE +βΉ45,000 (best performer)
2. TCS +βΉ12,000
3. INFY -βΉ5,000
4. HDFC -βΉ18,000 (worst performer)
```
**Tip**: Flip to "Lowest to Highest" to find tax loss harvesting candidates!
---
### 3. XIRR % π―
**What it shows**: Time-adjusted returns (annualized %)
**Why it matters**:
- Compares holdings fairly regardless of when you bought them
- 20% return in 1 year β 20% return in 5 years
- Industry standard for performance comparison
**When to use**:
- Comparing different holdings objectively
- Evaluating investment decisions
- Reporting to stakeholders
**Example** (Highest to Lowest):
```
1. RELIANCE 45.5% (best annualized return)
2. TCS 22.3%
3. INFY 15.8%
4. HDFC 8.2% (weakest performer)
```
**Tip**: A high XIRR on a small holding may matter less than a moderate XIRR on a large holding!
---
### 4. Opportunity Cost β οΈ
**What it shows**: Impact of selling decisions (Sold positions only)
**Calculation**: What you got - What it would be worth now
**Understanding the Numbers**:
- **Negative** (Red/Orange): Sold too early, missed gains
- **Positive** (Green): Good timing, avoided losses
**When to use**:
- Learning from past decisions
- Improving exit strategy
- Avoiding emotional selling
**Example** (Most Negative First):
```
1. TCS -βΉ50,000 (-35%) "Sold too early! Missed βΉ50K"
2. RELIANCE -βΉ20,000 (-15%) "Could have held longer"
3. INFY +βΉ10,000 (+12%) "Good timing! Avoided losses"
4. HDFC +βΉ25,000 (+18%) "Excellent exit!"
```
**Tip**: Negative opportunity cost isn't necessarily badβyou may have needed the money or reduced risk!
---

## β FAQ
### Q: Why is a stock with lower P&L ranked higher?
**A**: You're sorting by "Current Value", not "Total P&L". A βΉ2L holding with 5% gain (βΉ10K) is shown before a βΉ50K holding with 20% gain (βΉ10K) because the first is larger.
**Solution**: Change Sort By to "Total P&L" or "XIRR %" for performance-based ranking.
---
### Q: What does "Value If Held" mean?
**A**: For sold positions, it shows what those shares would be worth if you still owned them at today's price.
**Example**: Sold 100 TCS @ βΉ3,000 = βΉ3,00,000. Now TCS is βΉ4,000. Value If Held = βΉ4,00,000. You "missed" βΉ1,00,000 of additional gain.
---
### Q: Why is XIRR different from absolute return %?
**A**: XIRR accounts for **time**. A 50% return in 1 year is much better than 50% return in 5 years. XIRR annualizes returns so you can compare apples to apples.
---
### Q: What's the difference between Realized and Unrealized P&L?
**A**:
- **Realized (R)**: Profit/loss from shares you've sold (closed positions)
- **Unrealized (U)**: Paper profit/loss from shares you still hold (open positions)
- **Total**: R + U = Complete picture
---
### Q: Why does sorting change the order but not the data?
**A**: Sorting is just a **view**βlike sorting files by name vs date. The underlying data (trades, quantities, prices) never changes.
---
### Q: Can I save my preferred sort?
**A**: Not yet! It resets when you reload. This feature is planned for a future update. Meanwhile, it only takes 2 clicks to set your sort.
