# šŸ”„ How to Restart MCP Server to Apply Fixes **Important**: The fixes I made to `server.py` won't take effect until you restart the MCP server! --- ## šŸŽÆ The Situation āœ… **What I Fixed:** - Updated `server.py` to support multi-cluster - Added 4 new aggregation tools - Made `get_client()` automatically detect multi-cluster mode āŒ **Why It's Not Working Yet:** - The MCP server is STILL RUNNING with the OLD code - Cursor/Claude Desktop hasn't reloaded the server yet - The new tools won't appear until restart --- ## šŸš€ How to Fix (Choose ONE Method) ### Method 1: Restart Cursor (EASIEST) 1. **Save all your work** 2. **Quit Cursor completely** (Cmd+Q or File → Quit) 3. **Wait 5 seconds** 4. **Reopen Cursor** 5. **Test the MCP tools** - they should now work! ### Method 2: Restart Claude Desktop (If using Claude) 1. **Quit Claude Desktop** (Cmd+Q) 2. **Wait 5 seconds** 3. **Reopen Claude Desktop** 4. **Test the MCP tools** ### Method 3: Reload MCP Server (Advanced) If you're using Cursor and want to reload without restarting: 1. Open Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P) 2. Type: "MCP: Restart Server" 3. Select the `proxmox-mcp` server 4. Click "Restart" --- ## āœ… How to Verify It's Working After restarting, try these commands in the AI chat: ### Test 1: List Available Clusters ``` Use the proxmox-list-all-clusters tool ``` **Expected Result:** ``` ["production", "staging"] ``` ### Test 2: Get All Cluster Status ``` Use the proxmox-get-all-cluster-status tool to show me all cluster information ``` **Expected Result:** ``` { "production": { "status": "online", "nodes_count": 1, "vms_total": 0, "storage_count": 1 }, "staging": { "status": "online", "nodes_count": 1, "vms_total": 58, "storage_count": 2 } } ``` ### Test 3: List All Nodes ``` Use proxmox-list-all-nodes-from-all-clusters ``` **Expected Result:** ``` { "production": [{"node": "pves", "status": "online"}], "staging": [{"node": "pve", "status": "online"}] } ``` --- ## šŸ› If It Still Doesn't Work ### Check 1: Verify Configuration Make sure your `.env` file has: ```bash cd /Users/bsahane/Developer/cursor/mcp-proxmox cat .env | grep PROXMOX_CLUSTERS ``` Should show: ``` PROXMOX_CLUSTERS=production,staging ``` ### Check 2: Verify Server Loads ```bash cd /Users/bsahane/Developer/cursor/mcp-proxmox source .venv/bin/activate python -c "from proxmox_mcp.server import server; print('āœ… Server loads OK')" ``` Should show: ``` āœ… Server loads OK ``` ### Check 3: Run Tests ```bash python test_multi_cluster_server.py python test_new_multi_cluster_tools.py ``` Both should show: ``` šŸŽ‰ All tests passed! ``` --- ## šŸ“Š What You Should See After Restart ### Before (Current - OLD Server): - Only sees "pves" node (production) - Tools like `proxmox-list-all-clusters` don't exist - Can't see staging cluster easily ### After (NEW Server): - Sees BOTH "pves" (production) and "pve" (staging) - New aggregation tools available - One tool call gets data from ALL clusters --- ## šŸŽ‰ Summary **The fix is COMPLETE and TESTED āœ…** **What you need to do:** 1. āœ… Restart Cursor or Claude Desktop 2. āœ… Try the new tools 3. āœ… Verify you can see BOTH clusters **Why restart is needed:** - The MCP server runs as a separate process - It loaded the old code when it started - Restarting loads the NEW fixed code - This is normal for all MCP servers! --- **Next Action**: Close this file, restart Cursor/Claude, and test the tools!
