# Google OAuth Integration - Verification Summary
**Date**: 2025-10-14
**Status**: ✅ **READY FOR USER TESTING**
---
## Quick Status
| Component | Status | Notes |
|-----------|--------|-------|
| Database User Record | ✅ VERIFIED | User exists with Clerk ID `user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd` |
| User Lookup by Clerk ID | ✅ VERIFIED | `getUserById()` successfully finds user |
| User Lookup by Email | ✅ VERIFIED | Cross-check confirms ID matches |
| OAuth Callback Route | ✅ VERIFIED | Route exists at `/api/auth/google-connect/callback` |
| Token Storage Logic | ✅ VERIFIED | `storeTokens()` method uses correct lookup pattern |
| Web Server | ✅ RUNNING | PM2 process active on port 3002 |
| End-to-End OAuth Flow | ⏳ PENDING | Awaiting user testing |
---
## What Was Fixed
### Problem
OAuth callback was failing with "User not found" error because:
- OAuth passed Clerk ID: `user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd`
- Database had UUID: `20f51f5c-1cd6-4b2f-8cb0-b98b57c2b8cf`
- Lookup failed → tokens couldn't be stored
### Solution
Migrated user ID in database from UUID to Clerk ID:
```sql
UPDATE users
SET id = 'user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd'
WHERE email = 'bob@matsuoka.com';
```
### Verification
```bash
# User lookup now succeeds:
SELECT * FROM users WHERE id = 'user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd';
# Returns: ✅ User found
```
---
## How OAuth Flow Will Work Now
1. **User clicks "Connect Google Account"**
- Browser: `GET /api/auth/google-connect`
- Server generates OAuth URL with `state=user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd`
- Redirects to Google
2. **User grants permissions on Google**
- Google shows consent screen
- User accepts permissions
- Google redirects back with `code` and `state`
3. **OAuth callback processes request** ✅ **THIS IS THE FIX**
- Receives: `state=user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd`
- Exchanges code for tokens
- Calls: `storeTokens('user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd', tokens)`
- `getUserById('user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd')` → **FINDS USER** ✅
- Stores tokens in `user.metadata`
- Redirects to `/settings?google_connected=true`
4. **User sees success message**
- Settings page shows "Connected" status
- Google integration is ready to use
---
## Test Instructions for User
### 1. Navigate to Settings
```
http://localhost:3002/settings
```
### 2. Connect Google Account
- Find "Google Integration" section
- Click "Connect Google Account" button
### 3. Complete OAuth
- Sign in to Google (bob@matsuoka.com)
- Review and accept permissions:
- ✓ Google Contacts (read/write)
- ✓ Google Calendar (read)
- ✓ Gmail (read)
- Click "Allow"
### 4. Verify Success
- Should redirect to `/settings?google_connected=true`
- Status should show "Connected" (green indicator)
- No error messages
### 5. Verify Token Storage (Optional)
```bash
cd /Users/masa/Projects/mcp-memory-ts
npx tsx << 'EOF'
import { createClient } from '@libsql/client';
const client = createClient({
url: process.env.TURSO_URL!,
authToken: process.env.TURSO_AUTH_TOKEN!,
});
const user = await client.execute({
sql: 'SELECT metadata FROM users WHERE id = ?',
args: ['user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd']
});
const metadata = JSON.parse(user.rows[0].metadata as string);
console.log('Has tokens:', !!metadata.googleOAuthTokens);
console.log('Connected at:', metadata.googleOAuthConnectedAt);
await client.close();
EOF
```
Expected output:
```
Has tokens: true
Connected at: 2025-10-14T...
```
### 6. Test Google Sync
```bash
# Verify connection
mcp-memory google auth --user-email bob@matsuoka.com
# Test contacts sync (dry run)
mcp-memory google contacts-sync --user-email bob@matsuoka.com --direction import --dry-run
# Test calendar sync
mcp-memory google calendar-sync --user-email bob@matsuoka.com
```
---
## Expected Results
### ✅ Success Indicators
- Redirect to `/settings?google_connected=true`
- Green "Connected" indicator in settings
- No "User not found" errors in logs
- Tokens stored in database
- Google sync commands work
### ❌ Failure Indicators
- Redirect to `/settings?google_error=...`
- "User not found" in PM2 logs
- "token_storage_failed" error
- Red "Disconnected" indicator in settings
---
## Monitoring
### Watch Logs During OAuth
```bash
pm2 logs mcp-memory-web-3002 --lines 0
```
### Check Database After OAuth
```bash
cd /Users/masa/Projects/mcp-memory-ts
npx tsx << 'EOF'
import { createClient } from '@libsql/client';
const client = createClient({
url: process.env.TURSO_URL!,
authToken: process.env.TURSO_AUTH_TOKEN!,
});
const user = await client.execute({
sql: 'SELECT id, email, metadata FROM users WHERE id = ?',
args: ['user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd']
});
console.log('User:', user.rows[0]);
await client.close();
EOF
```
---
## Troubleshooting
### If "User not found" still occurs
1. **Verify user ID migration**:
```bash
cd /Users/masa/Projects/mcp-memory-ts
npx tsx << 'EOF'
import { createClient } from '@libsql/client';
const client = createClient({url: process.env.TURSO_URL!, authToken: process.env.TURSO_AUTH_TOKEN!});
const result = await client.execute({sql: 'SELECT id FROM users WHERE email = ?', args: ['bob@matsuoka.com']});
console.log('Current user ID:', result.rows[0]?.id);
console.log('Expected:', 'user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd');
console.log('Match:', result.rows[0]?.id === 'user_33ZB97Sz4n775IAjl8pY5YZHqYd' ? '✓' : '✗');
await client.close();
EOF
```
2. **Check PM2 logs**:
```bash
pm2 logs mcp-memory-web-3002 --lines 100 | grep -i "google\|oauth\|error"
```
3. **Restart web server**:
```bash
pm2 restart mcp-memory-web-3002
```
### If OAuth redirects with error
- `token_exchange_failed`: Google API issue, check Google Cloud Console
- `token_storage_failed`: Database write failed, check logs for details
- `invalid_callback`: Missing parameters, ensure Google OAuth config correct
