# Legacy Columns Migration Summary
## Problem Statement
Google Contacts sync was failing with **2,412+ "no such column: email" errors** because the database schema was missing 3 legacy columns that the TypeScript Entity interface expected: `email`, `phone`, and `address`.
### Root Cause Analysis
1. **Schema Mismatch**: The TypeScript `Entity` interface defines `email`, `phone`, and `address` as individual fields
2. **Database Schema**: Only had `contact_info` TEXT field containing JSON data
3. **Compatibility Layer**: The `SchemaCompatibility` class mapped between JSON and individual fields when reading/writing
4. **Direct SQL Queries**: Some code paths (particularly Google sync) attempted to SELECT or WHERE on these columns directly, bypassing the compatibility layer
### Impact
- Google Contacts sync completely broken (2,412 errors)
- Direct SQL queries on contact fields impossible
- Performance issues with JSON extraction in WHERE clauses
- Inconsistent data access patterns across codebase
## Solution Implemented
### 1. Database Migration Script
Created `scripts/migrate-entities-legacy-columns.ts` with the following features:
**Column Additions:**
- `email TEXT` - Direct column for email addresses
- `phone TEXT` - Direct column for phone numbers
- `address TEXT` - Direct column for addresses
**Migration Features:**
- ✅ Dry-run mode support (`--dry-run`)
- ✅ Idempotent (checks for existing columns)
- ✅ Transaction safety
- ✅ Data migration from `contact_info` JSON to individual columns
- ✅ Comprehensive logging and verification
- ✅ Performance index creation (`idx_entities_contact` on email, phone)
