# Week Selector Implementation Summary
## Overview
Added a week selector dropdown to the MemoryExtractor component (`web/components/utilities/memory-extractor.tsx`) to allow users to extract memories from previous weeks, not just the current week.
## Changes Made
### 1. Component Imports
Added Select UI component imports:
```typescript
import {
Select,
SelectContent,
SelectItem,
SelectTrigger,
SelectValue,
SelectSeparator,
} from '@/components/ui/select';
```
### 2. State Management
Added state to track the selected week:
```typescript
const [selectedWeek, setSelectedWeek] = useState<string | null>(null);
```
### 3. Week Generation Function
Created `generatePastWeeks()` helper function that:
- Generates the last 12 weeks from today
- Calculates ISO week identifiers (format: `YYYY-WW`)
- Checks against extraction logs to mark already-processed weeks
- Returns array with week metadata (value, label, isProcessed)
**Week Calculation Logic:**
- Uses ISO week numbering (Monday as week start)
- Calculates week number based on day of year
- Formats as `YYYY-WW` (e.g., `2025-42`)
### 4. Extraction Handler Update
Renamed and enhanced `handleExtractCurrentWeek` → `handleExtractWeek`:
- Accepts optional `weekIdentifier` parameter
- Passes selected week to API or defaults to current week
- Resets `selectedWeek` state after successful extraction
- Maintains all existing error handling and toast notifications
### 5. UI Enhancements
Replaced single extraction button with comprehensive week selector UI:
**Week Selector Dropdown:**
- Shows "This Week (Current)" as default option
- Lists last 12 weeks with formatted dates (e.g., "Week 2025-42 (Oct 14)")
- Already-processed weeks show checkmark: "✓ Extracted"
- Already-processed weeks are disabled (cannot re-extract)
- Dropdown disabled during extraction
**Extract Button:**
- Dynamic text based on selection:
- No selection: "Extract This Week"
- Week selected: "Extract Week 2025-42"
- Disabled when extracting or Gmail not connected
- Shows spinner animation during extraction
### 6. User Experience Flow
1. User connects Gmail account
2. Week selector appears with current week selected by default
3. User can select from dropdown showing last 12 weeks
4. Already-processed weeks are clearly marked and disabled
5. Button text updates to show which week will be extracted
6. After successful extraction, selector resets to current week
7. Extraction history updates to reflect new processing status
## Features
### ✅ Implemented
- [x] Week dropdown with last 12 weeks
- [x] ISO week identifier format (YYYY-WW)
- [x] Visual indicators for processed weeks (✓ checkmark)
- [x] Disabled state for already-processed weeks
- [x] Dynamic button text based on selection
- [x] Default to current week
- [x] Reset selection after successful extraction
- [x] TypeScript type safety
- [x] Consistent styling with existing component
- [x] Loading states and error handling
### 🔒 Prevents
- Duplicate extractions (disabled processed weeks)
- User confusion (clear visual indicators)
- Invalid selections (proper validation)
## Technical Details
### Week Identifier Calculation
```typescript
// Calculate ISO week number
const year = date.getFullYear();
const startOfYear = new Date(year, 0, 1);
const dayOfYear = Math.floor((date.getTime() - startOfYear.getTime()) / (24 * 60 * 60 * 1000));
const weekNum = Math.ceil((dayOfYear + startOfYear.getDay() + 1) / 7);
const weekId = `${year}-${weekNum.toString().padStart(2, '0')}`;
```
### Processed Week Detection
```typescript
const isProcessed = extractionLogs.some(
log => log.week_identifier === weekId && log.status === 'completed'
);
```
### API Integration
The component sends the selected week to the extraction API:
```typescript
const response = await fetch('/api/gmail/extract', {
method: 'POST',
headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
body: JSON.stringify({
weekIdentifier: weekIdentifier || undefined, // Selected week or current
}),
});
```
