```
### 2. Set Up Google OAuth
1. Go to [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com/)
2. Create project and enable Gmail API
3. Create OAuth 2.0 credentials
4. Add redirect URI: `http://localhost:3000/api/auth/google/callback`
5. Copy Client ID
### 3. Configure Environment
Create `/web/.env.local`:
```bash
NEXT_PUBLIC_GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID=your-client-id.apps.googleusercontent.com
OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-your-openai-key
TURSO_URL=libsql://your-database.turso.io
TURSO_AUTH_TOKEN=your-auth-token
```
### 4. Run Database Migration
```bash
npm run migrate:gmail
```
Expected output:
```
✅ Migration completed successfully!
Created:
- gmail_extraction_log table
- idx_gmail_extraction_user_week index
- idx_gmail_extraction_user_status index
- idx_gmail_extraction_created index
```
### 5. Start Web Interface
```bash
cd web
npm run dev
```
### 6. Test the Feature
1. Open `http://localhost:3000`
2. Navigate to "Utilities" → "Memory Extractor"
3. Click "Connect Gmail"
4. Authorize in popup
5. Click "Extract This Week"
## Database Schema
### New Table: gmail_extraction_log
```sql
CREATE TABLE gmail_extraction_log (
id TEXT PRIMARY KEY,
user_id TEXT NOT NULL,
week_identifier TEXT NOT NULL, -- YYYY-WW format
start_date TEXT NOT NULL,
end_date TEXT NOT NULL,
emails_processed INTEGER DEFAULT 0,
memories_created INTEGER DEFAULT 0,
entities_created INTEGER DEFAULT 0,
status TEXT CHECK(status IN ('processing', 'completed', 'failed')),
error_message TEXT,
created_at TEXT NOT NULL,
completed_at TEXT,
UNIQUE(user_id, week_identifier)
);
```
### Indexes
- `idx_gmail_extraction_user_week` - Fast duplicate checking
- `idx_gmail_extraction_user_status` - Status filtering
- `idx_gmail_extraction_created` - History sorting
## Key Features
### 1. Weekly Batch Processing
- Processes Monday-Sunday of each week
- Prevents duplicate extraction
- Tracks processing status
- Handles errors gracefully
### 2. GPT-4 Intelligence
- Analyzes email content for meaning
- Extracts facts, insights, decisions
- Identifies people, organizations, projects
- Assigns importance levels (1-5)
### 3. Entity Recognition
- Extracts contact information
- Deduplicates by name
- Links entities to memories
- Merges information across emails
### 4. User Experience
- One-click OAuth connection
- Visual extraction history
- Real-time status updates
- Error reporting and recovery
## API Endpoints
### POST `/api/gmail/extract`
Run extraction for a week
```bash
curl -X POST http://localhost:3000/api/gmail/extract \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"gmailAccessToken": "ya29.a0...",
"weekIdentifier": "2025-42"
}'
```
### GET `/api/gmail/extract`
Get extraction logs
```bash
curl http://localhost:3000/api/gmail/extract?limit=10
```
### POST `/api/gmail/test`
Test connections
```bash
curl -X POST http://localhost:3000/api/gmail/test \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"gmailAccessToken": "ya29.a0...",
"openaiApiKey": "sk-..."
}'
```
## Usage Example
### Extract Current Week
```typescript
import { GmailExtractionService } from '@/lib/mcp-memory/services/gmail-extraction-service';
const service = new GmailExtractionService(db, memoryCore);
const result = await service.extractCurrentWeek(
userId,
gmailAccessToken,
openaiApiKey
);
console.log(result);
// {
// success: true,
// emails_processed: 15,
// memories_created: 23,
// entities_created: 8,
// summary: "Analyzed 15 emails. Extracted 23 memories..."
// }
```
## Cost Estimates
### Gmail API
- Free tier: 1 billion quota units/day
- Typical usage: Free
### OpenAI API (GPT-4)
- Per 10 emails: ~$0.035
- Per week (50 emails): ~$0.175
- Per month: ~$0.70
### Total
- **Monthly cost**: $0.70 - $2.50 (typical usage)
## Security
### OAuth Security
- Access tokens in browser localStorage only
- Tokens expire after 1 hour
- Server-side API key storage
- User isolation at database level
### Data Privacy
- All data scoped to authenticated user
- No cross-user access
- Extraction logs are user-specific
- Email content processed but not stored
## Performance
### Benchmarks
- Email fetch: ~0.5-1s per email
- GPT-4 analysis: ~5-10s per batch (10 emails)
- Database save: ~0.1s per record
- **Total**: ~1-2 minutes for 50 emails
## Testing
### Manual Test
1. Connect Gmail account
2. Extract current week
3. Verify extraction log created
4. Check memories and entities created
5. Verify duplicate prevention (re-run extraction)
### Expected Results
- Extraction log entry with status "completed"
- Memories created with proper metadata
- Entities extracted with contact info
- No duplicates on second run
## Troubleshooting
### Common Issues
**"redirect_uri_mismatch"**
- Fix: Ensure Google Console redirect URI matches exactly
**"No emails found"**
- Fix: Normal if no emails this week
**"Rate limit exceeded"**
- Fix: Wait a few minutes, reduce batch size
**Missing googleapis**
- Fix: `npm install googleapis`
### Debug Mode
Enable detailed logging:
```typescript
// In gmail-extractor.ts or gmail-extraction-service.ts
console.log('Debug info:', ...);
```
## Next Steps
### Production Deployment
1. Update OAuth redirect URIs for production domain
2. Publish OAuth consent screen (for public access)
3. Configure environment variables on hosting platform
4. Test with multiple users
5. Monitor API usage and costs
### Future Enhancements
- Automatic scheduled extractions (cron)
- Email filtering by label/folder
- Custom extraction prompts
- Bulk historical extraction
- Export results to JSON/CSV
- Advanced entity relationship mapping
