Pre-deployment Preparation (D-7) 1. Conduct final review of Kubernetes manifests: ```bash kustomize build k8s/overlays/prod | kubectl --dry-run=client -f - ``` 2. Validate CI/CD pipeline with a test deployment to staging: ```bash # Trigger a staging deployment via GitHub Actions git tag -a v1.0.0-rc1 -m "Release Candidate 1" git push origin v1.0.0-rc1 ``` 3. Review and update all secrets and configuration values: ```bash # Generate production secrets (do not commit to version control) ./scripts/generate_prod_secrets.sh > k8s/overlays/prod/secrets.yaml ``` ### 2. Infrastructure Preparation (D-5) 1. Provision Kubernetes cluster: ```bash # Using infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) terraform apply -var-file=prod.tfvars ``` 2. Configure RBAC for production access: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/rbac/ ``` 3. Install required Kubernetes operators: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/operators/ ``` 4. Create namespaces: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/base/namespace.yaml kubectl create namespace monitoring ``` ### 3. Database Setup (D-3) 1. Provision PostgreSQL database: ```bash # Using infrastructure as code or cloud provider console terraform apply -target=module.postgresql ``` 2. Provision Qdrant vector database: ```bash terraform apply -target=module.qdrant ``` 3. Set up database users and permissions: ```bash # Run database initialization scripts PGPASSWORD=admin_password psql -h <db-host> -U admin -d postgres -f scripts/init_db.sql ``` 4. Test database connections: ```bash # Validate PostgreSQL connection kubectl run pg-client --rm -it --restart=Never --image=postgres:15 -- psql -h <db-host> -U <db-user> -d sequential_questioning # Validate Qdrant connection curl -X GET http://<qdrant-host>:6333/collections ``` ### 4. Deployment Day (D-day) 1. Final review of deployment configuration: ```bash # Review and update image tags if needed cd k8s/overlays/prod kustomize edit set image ghcr.io/your-org/sequential-questioning=ghcr.io/your-org/sequential-questioning:v1.0.0 ``` 2. Apply ConfigMaps and Secrets: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/overlays/prod/configmap.yaml kubectl apply -f k8s/overlays/prod/secret.yaml ``` 3. Deploy application: ```bash # Using Kustomize kubectl apply -k k8s/overlays/prod # Verify deployment rollout kubectl rollout status deployment/prod-sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning ``` 4. Deploy monitoring stack: ```bash kubectl apply -k k8s/monitoring # Verify Prometheus and Grafana deployments kubectl rollout status deployment/prometheus -n monitoring kubectl rollout status deployment/grafana -n monitoring ``` 5. Apply network policies: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/network-policies/ ``` ### 5. Post-deployment Validation (D-day) 1. Health check verification: ```bash # Get service endpoint SERVICE_IP=$(kubectl get svc prod-sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning -o jsonpath='{.status.loadBalancer.ingress[0].ip}') # Check health endpoint curl -v http://$SERVICE_IP/health ``` 2. Run integration tests: ```bash # Run integration test suite against production ENDPOINT=http://$SERVICE_IP pytest -v tests/integration/ ``` 3. Load testing verification: ```bash # Run 5-minute load test k6 run -e TARGET=http://$SERVICE_IP tests/performance/load_test.js ``` 4. Verify logging and metrics: ```bash # Check Prometheus metrics curl http://$SERVICE_IP/metrics # Check logs kubectl logs -l app=sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning ``` ### 6. Monitoring Setup (D+1) 1. Configure Grafana dashboards: ```bash # Import dashboards kubectl port-forward svc/grafana -n monitoring 3000:80 # Then import dashboards/alerts through UI or API ``` 2. Set up alerting: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/monitoring/alertmanager-config.yaml ``` 3. Configure log aggregation: ```bash kubectl apply -f k8s/logging/ ``` 4. Test alert notification channels: ```bash # Trigger test alert curl -X POST http://alertmanager:9093/api/v1/alerts -d '[{"labels":{"alertname":"TestAlert"}}]' ``` ### 7. Go Live (D+2) 1. Final verification of all components: ```bash kubectl get all -n sequential-questioning kubectl get all -n monitoring ``` 2. Configure DNS for public access: ```bash # Update DNS records to point to the load balancer IP # This may vary depending on DNS provider ``` 3. Announce release to stakeholders. 4. Monitor system performance and metrics during initial public usage. ## Contingency Plans ### Rollback Procedure In case of critical issues discovered after deployment: 1. Immediate rollback to previous version: ```bash kubectl rollout undo deployment/prod-sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning ``` 2. For database issues: ```bash # Restore from latest backup ./scripts/restore_db.sh prod latest ``` 3. For complete rollback: ```bash # Apply previous version's Kubernetes manifests kubectl apply -k k8s/overlays/prod-backup ``` ### Common Issues and Mitigation 1. **Application fails to start**: - Check logs: `kubectl logs -l app=sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning` - Verify database connection - Check environment variables in ConfigMap and Secrets 2. **High error rate**: - Scale up resources: `kubectl scale deployment/prod-sequential-questioning -n sequential-questioning --replicas=5` - Check database performance - Review logs for error patterns 3. **Database connectivity issues**: - Verify network policies - Check credentials - Review database logs ## Communication Plan | Milestone | Audience | Channel | Timing | Owner | |-----------|----------|---------|--------|-------| | Deployment Start | Dev & DevOps Team | Slack #deployment | D-day 08:00 | DevOps Lead | | Deployment Complete | Dev & DevOps Team | Slack #deployment | D-day 10:00 | DevOps Lead | | Validation Complete | Engineering & Product | Email | D-day 14:00 | QA Lead | | Go Live Announcement | All Stakeholders | Email & Slack | D+2 09:00 | Product Manager | ## Sign-off Requirements The following approvals are required before proceeding: - [ ] DevOps Team Lead: Deployment configuration approved - [ ] Development Team Lead: Application readiness approved - [ ] QA Team Lead: Test results approved - [ ] Database Administrator: Database setup approved - [ ] Security Team: Security review approved - [ ] Product Owner: Feature completeness approved ## Post-Deployment Tasks 1.
