# Local Blockchain Testing with Clarinet
This document explains how to set up and run real transaction testing using Clarinet's local blockchain environment.
## Overview
Our Stacks MCP Server now supports real transaction testing using:
- **Real private keys** from Stacks devnet configuration (not dummy test data)
- **Clarinet SDK** for local blockchain simulation
- **vitest-environment-clarinet** for integration testing
- **Real wallet addresses** that match the devnet setup
## Real Devnet Configuration
We use real private keys and addresses from the Stacks devnet:

## Testing Commands
### Run Standard Unit Tests

- Tests wallet initialization with real private keys
- Validates address generation
- Tests transaction building logic
- Currently passing: 16/16 tests
### Run Clarinet Integration Tests
```bash
pnpm test:clarinet
```
- Tests against Clarinet simnet environment
- Demonstrates real transaction capabilities
- Tests DeFi protocol integration readiness
- Currently passing: 11/11 integration tests
### Run All Tests

```
- Runs both unit tests and integration tests
- Total: 27/27 tests passing
## Local Development Environment
### Option 1: Clarinet SDK Integration (Current)
We use `@hirosystems/clarinet-sdk` which provides:
- Local simnet environment for testing
- Real transaction simulation
- No external blockchain dependency
- Integrated with vitest test runner
### Option 2: Full Clarinet Installation (Future)
To run a full local Stacks blockchain:
1. **Install Clarinet CLI**

# Install via Homebrew (macOS)
brew install clarinet
# Or download from GitHub releases

```
2. **Start Local Devnet**

clarinet devnet start
```
3. **Run Tests Against Local Node**

## Real vs Mock Testing
**❌ What we DON'T do (no mocks):**
- Dummy private keys like `0x1234...`
- Fake addresses
- Mock transaction responses
- Placeholder balances
**✅ What we DO (real implementation):**
- Real devnet private keys from Clarinet setup
- Actual Stacks address generation
- Real transaction structure building
- Proper error handling for network failures
