# RDF Parser Current Status and Development Roadmap
## Current Implementation Status
**Version**: Phase 1 Complete (Enhanced Architecture)
**Location**: `src/services/rdf-parser.ts`
**Integration Status**: ✅ Fully Implemented and Integrated
### ✅ Current Capabilities
- Basic Turtle (.ttl) format parsing
- Prefix declaration handling (`@prefix` and `PREFIX`)
- Subject-predicate-object triple extraction
- URI expansion (prefixed URIs → full URIs)
- Literal value extraction (basic)
- Comment and whitespace handling
- Batch processing support
- **Enhanced Security**: SQL injection protection for database operations
- **Type Safety**: Strong typing throughout the parser implementation
- **Error Handling**: Structured error system with specific error codes
### ⚠️ Known Limitations (Phase 2 Enhancement Candidates)
1. **Abbreviated Syntax Support**: Missing comma/semicolon abbreviated syntax handling
2. **Literal Metadata**: Datatype and language tags are parsed but not preserved in output structure
3. **Error Reporting**: Basic error handling without detailed parsing diagnostics
4. **Turtle Compliance**: Limited support for advanced Turtle features (blank nodes, collections, complex escaping)
5. **Performance**: No streaming or incremental parsing for large files
### 📊 Integration Dependencies
- **Database Schema**: Requires `triples` table (exists in Phase 1 schema)
- **YAGO Integration**: Parser designed for YAGO 4.5 Turtle format
- **MCP Tool Integration**: Integrated as part of the Congo River MCP server
- **Testing**: Integrated into end-to-end testing framework
- **Enhanced Architecture**: Part of the secure, type-safe, error-handling enhanced system
## Recommended Next Steps
### Phase 2: Parser Enhancement (Immediate Priority)
1. **Implement Abbreviated Syntax Support**
- Add comma-separated object lists
- Add semicolon-separated predicate chains
- Handle mixed abbreviated syntax
2. **Enhance Literal Handling**
- Preserve datatype information in `RDFTriple` interface
- Preserve language tags in `RDFTriple` interface
- Support typed literals (xsd:date, xsd:integer, etc.)
3. **Improve Error Handling**
- Add detailed parsing error reporting
- Implement line/column tracking for error location
- Add validation for malformed triples
### Phase 3: Advanced Features
1. **Streaming Parser**
- Implement incremental parsing for large files
- Add memory-efficient processing for YAGO-scale datasets
2. **Full Turtle Compliance**
- Blank node support
- Collection syntax support
- Advanced string escaping
3. **MCP Tool Integration**
- Register `parse_rdf` as standalone MCP tool
- Add file upload support for Turtle files
- Implement validation and preview modes
### Phase 4: Production Optimization
1. **Performance Benchmarking**
- Optimize for YAGO 4.5 dataset size (10M+ triples)
- Implement parallel processing for large files
2. **Format Expansion**
- Add N-Triples support
- Add JSON-LD support (via conversion)
