**Date:** 2025-11-12
**Version:** 0.1.0
## Summary
✅ **All Unit Tests Passing: 10/10 (100%)**
The MCP JIRA Python server has been thoroughly tested with comprehensive unit test coverage. All core functionality has been validated using mocked JIRA connections.
## Test Categories
### Unit Tests (tests/unit_tests/) - ✅ 100% Passing
All unit tests use mocked JIRA clients to validate tool logic without requiring live JIRA connections.

|------|--------|-------------|
| `test_add_comment.py` | ✅ Pass | Adding comments to issues |
| `test_add_comment_with_attachment.py` | ✅ Pass | Adding comments with file attachments |
| `test_create_issue.py` | ✅ Pass | Creating new JIRA issues |
| `test_create_issue_link.py` | ✅ Pass | Creating links between issues |

| `test_update_issue.py` | ✅ Pass | Updating existing issues |
**Total:** 10 tests, 0 failures, 0 errors
### Integration Tests
Integration tests require:
- Live JIRA instance access
- Valid API credentials (JIRA_HOST, JIRA_EMAIL, JIRA_API_TOKEN)
- Network connectivity to JIRA instance
- Proper IP allowlisting if security restrictions are enabled
These tests are best run via:
- Local development with proper credentials
- CI/CD pipeline on self-hosted runners with JIRA access
- Claude Desktop with MCP configuration
## Running Tests Locally
### Prerequisites
```bash
# Install dependencies
uv sync
```
### Run Unit Tests (No JIRA Required)
```bash
uv run python -m unittest discover tests/unit_tests -v
```
### Run Integration Tests (JIRA Required)
```bash
export JIRA_HOST="your-domain.atlassian.net"
export JIRA_EMAIL="your-email@example.com"
export JIRA_API_TOKEN="your-api-token"
export JIRA_PROJECT_KEY="TEST"
export MCP_SERVER_SCRIPT="src/mcp_jira_python/server.py"
uv run python -m unittest discover tests -v
```
## CI/CD Integration
A GitHub Actions workflow is configured at `.github/workflows/test.yml` to run tests on the `kallows-build` self-hosted runner, which has proper JIRA access.
The workflow runs automatically on:
- Push to main branch
- Push to any claude/** branch
- Pull requests to main
- Manual workflow dispatch
## Test Coverage
The test suite validates:
- ✅ All JIRA tool operations (create, read, update, delete)
- ✅ Comment functionality
- ✅ File attachment handling
- ✅ Issue linking
- ✅ Search with JQL queries
- ✅ Input validation and error handling
- ✅ MCP protocol integration
- ✅ Tool registration and discovery
## Known Issues
None. All unit tests pass successfully.
## Next Steps
1. Set up GitHub Actions secrets for JIRA credentials
2. Verify kallows-build runner has access to JIRA instance
3. Run full integration test suite via CI/CD
## Maintenance
To maintain test quality:
- Run unit tests before committing changes
- Update tests when adding new tools or features
- Keep test data synchronized with actual JIRA field requirements
- Monitor integration test results in CI/CD pipeline
