# Package Installation & Testing Results ## Package Information - **Name**: `@canveletedotcom/mcp-server` - **Latest Version**: 1.0.4 - **npm URL**: https://www.npmjs.com/package/@canveletedotcom/mcp-server ## Issues Found & Fixed ### Issue #1: CLI Help Not Working **Problem**: Running `npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server --help` would start the server instead of showing help. **Root Cause**: Commander.js was not configured to show help when no command was provided. The program would default to running without showing usage information. **Fix Applied**: Added logic to display help when no arguments are provided: ```typescript // If no command provided, show help if (!process.argv.slice(2).length) { program.outputHelp(); } ``` **Status**: ✅ Fixed in v1.0.3 ### Issue #2: Version Mismatch **Problem**: The CLI was showing version 1.0.0 even though package.json had a higher version. **Root Cause**: Hardcoded version strings in the source code weren't being updated. **Fix Applied**: Updated version strings in: - CLI program definition - MCP Server initialization **Status**: ✅ Fixed in v1.0.4 ## Test Results ### ✅ Installation Test ```bash npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server@latest --version # Output: 1.0.4 ``` ### ✅ Help Command Test ```bash npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server@latest --help # Output: Shows full CLI help with commands and options ``` ### ✅ Inspect Command Test ```bash npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server@latest inspect # Output: # Canvelete MCP Server Configuration: # API Key Present: false # Node Version: v22.14.0 ``` ### ✅ Start Command Help Test ```bash npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server@latest start --help # Output: Shows start command options including --api-key flag ``` ## Available Commands 1. **start** - Start the MCP server (Stdio transport) - Options: `-k, --api-key <key>` - Canvelete API Key override 2. **inspect** - Inspect server configuration - Shows API key presence and Node version 3. **help** - Display help for commands ## Usage Examples ### For Claude Desktop (Recommended) ```json { "mcpServers": { "canvelete": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@canveletedotcom/mcp-server", "start"], "env": { "CANVELETE_API_KEY": "your_api_key_here" } } } } ``` ### Global Installation ```bash npm install -g @canveletedotcom/mcp-server canvelete-mcp start ``` ### Direct Usage with npx ```bash npx @canveletedotcom/mcp-server start ``` ## Package Contents - ✅ Binary executable: `canvelete-mcp` - ✅ Main entry: `dist/index.cjs` (1.17 MB) - ✅ README.md with full documentation - ✅ LICENSE (MIT) - ✅ Proper shebang for CLI execution ## Verification - ✅ Package published successfully to npm - ✅ All CLI commands working correctly - ✅ Help system functioning properly - ✅ Version reporting accurate - ✅ Binary executable with proper permissions - ✅ Dependencies bundled correctly (8 deps) ## Recommendations for Future 1. **Auto-sync versions**: Consider using a package like `genversion` to auto-generate version from package.json 2. **Add tests**: Include automated tests for CLI commands 3. **CI/CD**: Set up GitHub Actions for automated publishing 4. **Changelog**: Maintain a CHANGELOG.md for version history ## Summary The package is now fully functional and published to npm. All issues have been resolved: - CLI help works correctly - Version reporting is accurate - All commands are operational - Package can be installed and used via npx or global installation **Status**: ✅ Ready for production use
