# Claude Desktop Integration Validation Report
## Current Status: ❌ Not Properly Configured
### Issues Found
1. **Transport Configuration Mismatch**
- Current `.env`: `TRANSPORT=http` (for Docker deployment)
- Current `.env.test`: `TRANSPORT=http` (should be `stdio` for Claude Desktop)
- Claude Desktop requires `TRANSPORT=stdio` to work properly
2. **Docker Service Status**
- MCP server container is not running
- Only Qdrant, SearXNG, and Valkey are running
- The Docker build was in progress but timed out
3. **Configuration Documentation**
- The archived configuration files show previous attempts with WSL setup
- The current `MCP_CLIENT_CONFIG.md` only documents HTTP transport for Docker
### Required Fixes
1. **Update `.env.test` for Claude Desktop**:
```bash
# Change TRANSPORT from http to stdio
TRANSPORT=stdio
# Remove or comment out HOST and PORT for stdio mode
# HOST=0.0.0.0
# PORT=8051
```
2. **Complete Docker Setup** (if using Docker approach):
```bash
# Finish the Docker build and start
docker compose up -d --build
# Verify MCP server is running
docker ps | grep mcp-crawl4ai
# Check logs
docker compose logs -f mcp-crawl4ai
```
3. **Claude Desktop Configuration**:
For **Windows with WSL** (based on archived configs):
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"crawl4ai-rag": {
"command": "wsl",
"args": [
"--cd",
"/home/krashnicov/crawl4aimcp",
"--",
"bash",
"-c",
"USE_TEST_ENV=true /home/krashnicov/.local/bin/uv run python src/crawl4ai_mcp.py"
]
}
}
}
```
For **Direct HTTP connection** (if using Docker):
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"crawl4ai-docker": {
"url": "http://localhost:8051",
"transport": "http"
}
}
}
```
### Validation Steps
1. **Test STDIO mode locally**:
```bash
# Update .env.test to use TRANSPORT=stdio
export USE_TEST_ENV=true
uv run python src/crawl4ai_mcp.py
# Send initialization request
{"jsonrpc": "2.0", "method": "initialize", "params": {"protocolVersion": "0.1.0", "capabilities": {}, "clientInfo": {"name": "test", "version": "1.0"}}, "id": 1}
```
2. **Test HTTP mode with Docker**:
```bash
# Complete Docker setup
docker compose up -d
# Test health endpoint
curl http://localhost:8051/health
# Test MCP endpoint
curl -X POST http://localhost:8051/mcp/ \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc": "2.0", "method": "initialize", "params": {"protocolVersion": "0.1.0", "capabilities": {}, "clientInfo": {"name": "test", "version": "1.0"}}, "id": 1}'
```
### Recommendation
Based on the qa_progress.md history, the WSL + STDIO approach was previously tested and working. I recommend:
1. Fix `.env.test` to use `TRANSPORT=stdio`
2. Use the WSL-based Claude Desktop configuration
3. Ensure all required services (Qdrant) are running
4. Test the initialization handshake before configuring Claude Desktop
The HTTP/Docker approach is an alternative but requires the Docker container to be properly built and running first.
