alloc_hierarchicalHierarchical portfolio (HRP, HERC, NCO)
Read-onlyIdempotent
Inspect

Hierarchical clustering portfolio: HRP, HERC, HERC2 or NCO on a tree of the assets built from a codependence (correlation, Gerber, distance correlation, mutual information, tail dependence) and a linkage (single ... ward, DBHT), allocating by one of 38 risk measures, with optional weight bounds. Returns the long-only weights, the profile, the clusters, the tree as merge steps and leaf order (dendrogram numbers) and the codependence matrix in leaf order (heatmap). Needs no expected returns, so it is stable out of sample.

ParametersJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
kNoNumber of clusters; default chosen by opt_k_method.
rfNoRisk-free rate per period, same frequency as the returns (e.g. 0.0001 for daily data).

backtest_runRun a backtestInspect

Runs one backtest of a complete spec on the native engine and returns the engine's result document with its run_id, warnings and cached flag; a document too large to inline comes back as type result_ref with the run_id to read through backtest_get_run and backtest_get_run_records. Costs 1 credit (action backtest_run), charged only when a result is delivered; an identical repeat is served from history for free. Validate first with backtest_validate_spec.

Searches, for each chosen model, its hyperparameters together with the features (candidate lags, EWM and rolling means, calendar features and target transforms such as log, differencing and scaling, shaped by the season) to minimize the backtest error over n_windows windows, then retrains the best configuration on all data and forecasts h periods with conformal bands. Returns each model's best loss, hyperparameters and features, the loss of every trial, the forecasts and charts. The search stops at trials or about 200 seconds.

ParametersJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
hNoPeriods to forecast after the last observation.
yNoOne series of numbers, oldest first (instead of data).
dataNoLong table, one row per series and period: the id column (e.g. ticker), the time column (ISO dates or integer steps), the target column and any exogenous columns. Give this OR y.
exogNoSingle series only: exogenous columns, one row per value of y (rates, prices, promotions).
freqNoFrequency alias of the dates: D, B (business days), W-FRI, MS/ME (month start/end), QS/QE, YS/YE, h, min. Inferred when omitted; irregular dates (trading days with holidays) are counted as consecutive steps.
lossNoBacktest error minimized (mean over series).smape
seedNoSeed: same seed, same search.
datesNoOptional ISO dates, one per observation (or a $fincept reference); gives forecasts and periods real dates.

id_colNoId column of the long table (one value per series).unique_id
levelsNoPrediction-interval levels in percent, e.g. [80, 95]; [] for point forecasts. Intervals are conformal: calibrated on the model's own backtest errors.
modelsNoModels to search: lightgbm, xgboost, catboost, linear_regression, ridge, lasso, elastic_net, random_forest; each gets its own search and best configuration.
trialsNoConfigurations tried per model.
samplerNoSearch: tpe (Bayesian), random, qmc (quasi-random).tpe
time_colNoTime column of the long table: ISO dates or integer steps.ds
n_windowsNoBacktest windows (forecast origins).

target_colNoTarget column of the long table: the value to forecast.y
weight_colNoColumn of non-negative sample weights for training.
future_exogNoFuture values of every dynamic exogenous column over the horizon. Long table: rows with the id and time columns plus those columns, one per series and future period. Single series: h rows of those columns.
series_nameNoId given to the single series y.series
season_lengthNoSeason that shapes the candidate lags, statistics and calendar features; default from the dates.
include_fittedNoAlso return in-sample fitted values.
interval_methodNoconformal_distribution: quantiles of the calibration errors around each forecast; conformal_error: symmetric quantiles of absolute errors; weighted_*: errors reweighted by how similar their features are (needed for weighted transfer).conformal_distribution
static_featuresNoExogenous columns constant within each series (sector, country, size bucket), repeated into the future automatically. Every other extra column is dynamic and needs future values.
interval_windowsNoBacktest windows that calibrate the intervals (more = steadier, needs more history).
interval_per_stepNoCalibrate a separate width for each step ahead (needs interval_windows x h + 1 observations per series); false uses one-step errors for every step.

pfopt_hrpHierarchical risk parity
Read-onlyIdempotent
Inspect

Hierarchical risk parity weights from a price (or returns) history, or from a covariance matrix alone: the assets are clustered by correlation distance, ordered along the tree and risk is split between sub-clusters by inverse variance, needing no expected returns and no matrix inversion. Returns weights (table + bar chart), annual return (history only), volatility and Sharpe, the linkage table, the leaf order with dendrogram coordinates (series + chart) and the correlation matrix in cluster order (heatmap).

ParametersJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
assetsNoAsset columns to use; default every column except the date column.
cutoffNoWeights smaller than this in absolute value are set to zero in the cleaned weights.
pricesNoPrice history: one column per asset named by its ticker, rows in time order, optionally a date column (detected by name: date, datetime, time, timestamp, period; or set date_column). With returns_data true the values are periodic returns instead (0.01 = 1%). Not needed when expected_returns and cov_matrix are both given.
roundingNoDecimal places of the cleaned weights (null = no rounding).
frequencyNoPeriods per year used to annualise: 252 daily, 52 weekly, 12 monthly, 4 quarterly.
cov_matrixNoAnnual covariance matrix: one column per asset and the rows in the same order, or row objects with an "asset" label (the matrix pfopt_risk_model returns); overrides risk_model.
date_columnNoName of the date column when it is not detected by name.
log_returnsNoCompute log returns from the prices instead of simple returns.
returns_dataNoThe table holds periodic returns, not prices.
linkage_methodNoHow clusters are merged: single (nearest neighbour, the original HRP), complete, average, weighted, centroid, median, ward (minimum variance).single

Returns cleaned and raw weights (table + bar chart) and the expected annual return, volatility and Sharpe ratio. For downside risk use pfopt_semivariance, pfopt_cvar or pfopt_cdar.

ParametersJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
spanNoEMA span in periods for ema_historical_return (default 500) and exp_cov (default 180).
assetsNoAsset columns to use; default every column except the date column.
cutoffNoWeights smaller than this in absolute value are set to zero in the cleaned weights.
pricesNoPrice history: one column per asset named by its ticker, rows in time order, optionally a date column (detected by name: date, datetime, time, timestamp, period; or set date_column). With returns_data true the values are periodic returns instead (0.01 = 1%). Not needed when expected_returns and cov_matrix are both given.
solverNoNumerical solver: auto picks one for the problem; interior_point (conic), operator_splitting (quadratic programs only), conic_splitting (large conic problems), simplex (linear and integer programs only). Try another when a solve reports an inaccurate or failed status.auto
l2_gammaNoL2 regularisation strength (0 = off): penalises concentration so fewer weights are zero; ~1 for 20 assets.
roundingNoDecimal places of the cleaned weights (null = no rounding).
benchmarkNoBenchmark or market series, one value per row of the history (prices, or returns with returns_data), e.g. an index ETF: the market of capm_return and of ex-post tracking error.
cost_rateNoCost per unit of weight traded (0.001 = 10 bp).
frequencyNoPeriods per year used to annualise: 252 daily, 52 weekly, 12 monthly, 4 quarterly.

cov_matrixNoAnnual covariance matrix: one column per asset and the rows in the same order, or row objects with an "asset" label (the matrix pfopt_risk_model returns); overrides risk_model.
risk_modelNoCovariance estimate: sample, semicovariance (downside only), exponentially weighted (see span), Ledoit-Wolf shrinkage to constant variance (ledoit_wolf is the same), to a single-factor model or to constant correlation, or oracle approximating shrinkage. For manual shrinkage or a robust estimate use pfopt_risk_model and pass its matrix as cov_matrix.sample_cov

constraintsNoExtra linear constraints on the weights, each {coefficients, op, value}.
date_columnNoName of the date column when it is not detected by name.

risk_aversionNoRisk aversion δ of the quadratic utility μ'w - δ/2 w'Σw (higher = less risk).
sector_mapperNoGroup (sector) of each asset, e.g. {"XOM": "energy", "JPM": "financials"}.
target_returnNoAnnual return floor for efficient_return (0.2 = 20%).
weight_boundsNo[min, max] weight of every asset: [0, 1] long-only, [-1, 1] allows shorting, [0, 0.1] caps positions at 10%.
market_neutralNoWeights sum to 0 instead of 1 (dollar-neutral long/short); needs a negative lower bound.

track_benchmarkNoAdd an ex-post tracking-error penalty: variance of the portfolio's historical return minus the benchmark series.
expected_returnsNoAnnual expected return per asset ({"AAPL": 0.12, ...}); overrides return_model.
previous_weightsNoCurrent holdings as weights: adds a transaction-cost penalty on turnover away from them.
benchmark_weightsNoBenchmark weights: adds an ex-ante tracking-error penalty (w - b)' Σ (w - b) to the objective.
target_volatilityNoAnnual volatility cap for efficient_risk (0.15 = 15%).
