"MusicBrainz" matching MCP tools:

  • Resolve a standard identifier to MusicBrainz entities without a name search — the deterministic path when you already hold an ID. id_type=isrc → recordings (a recording-level code, often shared by several recordings); id_type=iswc → works (a composition-level code); id_type=barcode → releases (UPC/EAN digits; spaces and hyphens are ignored). ISRC and ISWC hit dedicated exact endpoints; barcode is a Lucene search filter so results are ranked (exact match scores 100). The output kind field tells you which entity type came back.

  • Identify a vinyl record from the matrix/runout etching in the deadwax (stamper suffixes vary copy to copy, so stable-prefix matching is built in), the label catalog number, or the barcode. Returns artist, album, year, label, catalog number. Backed by NMLP's Discogs-derived vinyl identifier index plus MusicBrainz fallback. • ISRC lookup and music royalties registration check for one recording, with the song's rights data. Give exactly one of: an ISRC, a Spotify track link, a song title (optionally with the artist), or a YouTube link. Returns candidate recordings and MLC works, how each was matched and how confidently, and a verdict per recording: registered, partial (a share is unclaimed), nobody (no MLC work is linked), conflict, or unknown. Each verdict carries dated evidence (as_of, from The MLC's bulk data snapshot) and a factual next step. Also returns what MusicBrainz records for the recording: the linked works with their ISWCs, the writers and publishers with their IPI and ISNI numbers, the earliest release's album, date, label and catalogue number, and the MusicBrainz page. With full_record true it adds every release (label, catalogue number, country and date), performer and producer credits and related recordings; that answer is many times larger. When several matches are equally likely, ambiguous is true and all are returned. Findings from registration data, not legal advice or a statement of song ownership.

  • Fetch a setlist.fm artist record by band name or MusicBrainz ID. Pass `artist_name` ("Radiohead") and the name is resolved to the MBID for you, preferring an exact match so a tribute act does not answer for the band; pass `mbid` directly when you already have one. Returns artist name, MBID, Ticketmaster ID, sort name, and disambiguation info.

  • A band's concert history, newest first — use this for "what did Radiohead play at their most recent show". Pass `artist_name` and the band is resolved to its MusicBrainz ID for you, preferring an exact name match so a tribute act does not answer for the band; pass `mbid` directly when you have one. Returns setlists with date, venue, city, and full track lists.

  • Catalogue registration check (batch ISRC lookup): checks up to 50 recordings at once against The MLC's bulk data (US mechanical royalties), and a larger catalogue in several calls. Returns each recording's verdict (registered, partial, nobody, conflict, unknown) with its confidence, MLC song code and any unclaimed share, plus a summary counting each verdict, the next step for each verdict found, and the as_of date of the MLC snapshot. Each row also lists the ISWCs and writers of the works MusicBrainz links to the recording. Invalid ISRCs are listed and skipped. It finds recordings whose music royalties may be unmatched or unclaimed. Findings from registration data, not legal advice or a statement of song ownership.

  • Get audio features for ONE track — BPM, musical key (name + Camelot + Open Key), energy, danceability, valence, acousticness, loudness, mood, mood_vector, genre, time signature, duration and more. This is the drop-in replacement for Spotify's deprecated /audio-features endpoint. Provide AT LEAST ONE identifier — if you know several, send them all rather than choosing; they resolve by precedence (`track` > `isrc` > `mbid` > `spotify_id`) and the rest are ignored: - `track` (optionally with `artist`) — e.g. track="Blinding Lights", artist="The Weeknd". - `isrc` — e.g. "USUM71900001". - `mbid` — a MusicBrainz recording UUID. - `spotify_id` — a Spotify track ID, URI, or URL (resolved per request by reading the track's title from Spotify's public embed page and matching it against our catalogue — no Spotify IDs are stored; ambiguous titles miss rather than guess — prefer `track`/`isrc` for full coverage). Returns a JSON object of features. Some feature fields may be null for tracks resolved via the fallback catalogs (only audio-derived values are present for fully analysed tracks). VALUES are FreqBlog's own analysis, NOT on Spotify's scale: energy and valence are models of how energetic / positive the preview sounds, both on our own scales (derive thresholds from our values, don't copy Spotify-tuned ones); danceability and acousticness are on AcousticBrainz's scale -- its classifier where available, else a model that listens to the preview, built on PANNs embeddings (Kong et al. 2020, CC BY 4.0); instrumentalness is a vocal-detection model's score for the 30-second preview (not the whole track); speechiness and liveness are currently null for catalogue tracks; time_signature is ASSUMED 4 (4/4) on every track, not measured. If a track name is not yet in the catalog, the API holds the request during the on-demand ingest and usually returns the fully analysed track inline in this same call; only if the ingest runs long does it fall back to a queued response you can re-poll shortly (~15s). If the track turns out not to be on any streaming source we can analyse, you get a definitive not-found instead — that verdict is terminal for ~7 days, so don't retry it. If you only have a fuzzy or partial name, call search_catalog first to find the exact track.
