# Financial Endpoints Test Coverage Summary ## Overview Comprehensive test coverage has been implemented for the financial reporting endpoints to address the 500 error issues and ensure robust error handling with proper correlation IDs. ## Test Coverage Results ### Financial Route (`src/api/routes/financial.py`) - **Coverage**: 95.45% (42/44 statements covered) - **Missing Lines**: 100, 106 (edge cases in successful response path) ### Hostaway Client (`src/services/hostaway_client.py`) - **Coverage**: 46.73% (50/107 statements covered) - **Financial Methods Covered**: - `get_financial_report()` - Fully tested - `get_property_financials()` - Fully tested ## Test Suite Breakdown ### Unit Tests (`tests/unit/test_financial_errors.py`) **8 comprehensive test cases covering:** 1. **HTTP Error Handling** - `test_get_financial_report_http_500` - Validates 502 response with correlation ID for upstream 500 errors - `test_get_financial_report_http_404` - Validates 404 response when endpoint not available - `test_get_financial_report_http_403` - Validates 403 response for permission denied errors 2. **Input Validation** - `test_get_financial_report_invalid_dates` - Validates 400 response for end date before start date - `test_get_financial_report_malformed_date` - Validates 400 response for invalid date format 3. **Network Error Handling** - `test_get_financial_report_timeout` - Validates 500 response with correlation ID for timeout errors - `test_get_financial_report_malformed_response` - Validates 500 response for invalid JSON responses 4. **Error Hygiene** - `test_correlation_id_format` - Validates correlation IDs are properly formatted (10-character nanoid) **All tests pass**: ✓ 8/8 passed ### Integration Tests (`tests/integration/test_financial_api.py`) **6 comprehensive test cases covering:** 1. **Success Scenarios** - `test_get_financial_report_success` - Tests successful account-wide financial report retrieval - `test_get_property_financial_report_success` - Tests successful property-specific financial report 2. **Error Scenarios** - `test_get_financial_report_invalid_dates` - Tests client-level error handling for invalid dates 3. **End-to-End Flow** - `test_financial_reporting_flow_complete` - Tests complete flow from account report to property report 4. **MCP Protocol** - `test_financial_route_success` - Tests route handler with successful response - `test_financial_route_with_listing_id` - Tests route handler with property-specific request **All tests pass**: ✓ 6/6 passed ## Key Features Tested ### Error Hygiene - ✓ All error responses include correlation IDs - ✓ Correlation IDs are properly formatted (10-character nanoid) - ✓ Errors are logged server-side with full context - ✓ Client receives compact JSON error responses (no HTML) ### Error Scenarios Covered - ✓ HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error) → Returns 502 with correlation ID - ✓ HTTP 404 (Not Found) → Returns 404 with helpful message about endpoint availability - ✓ HTTP 403 (Forbidden) → Returns 403 with permission denied message - ✓ HTTP 400 (Bad Request) → Returns 400 for invalid input - ✓ Timeout errors → Returns 500 with correlation ID - ✓ Malformed JSON → Returns 500 with correlation ID - ✓ Invalid date format → Returns 400 with validation error - ✓ End date before start date → Returns 400 with validation error ### Success Scenarios Covered - ✓ Account-wide financial report retrieval - ✓ Property-specific financial report retrieval - ✓ Revenue breakdown by channel (Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, Direct) - ✓ Expense breakdown by category (Cleaning, Maintenance, Utilities, Platform Fees) - ✓ Profitability metrics (Net Income, Occupancy Rate, Average Daily Rate) ## Shared Test Fixtures Created comprehensive fixtures in `tests/conftest.py`: ### Configuration Fixtures - `test_config` - Test configuration with environment variables - `mock_http_client` - Mock httpx AsyncClient - `mock_response` - Mock httpx Response - `mock_token_manager` - Mock TokenManager with valid token - `mock_rate_limiter` - Mock RateLimiter (always allows requests) - `mock_client` - Fully configured mock HostawayClient ### Test Data Fixtures - `mock_financial_report_response` - Account-wide financial report data - `mock_property_financial_response` - Property-specific financial report data - `mock_listing_response` - Listing data - `mock_listings_response` - List of listings - `mock_booking_response` - Booking data - `mock_bookings_response` - List of bookings ## Running Tests ### Run All Financial Tests ```bash uv run pytest tests/unit/test_financial_errors.py tests/integration/test_financial_api.py -v ``` ### Run with Coverage ```bash uv run pytest tests/unit/test_financial_errors.py tests/integration/test_financial_api.py \ --cov=src/api/routes/financial \ --cov=src/services/hostaway_client \ --cov-report=term-missing \ --cov-report=html:htmlcov/financial ``` ### Run Unit Tests Only ```bash uv run pytest tests/unit/test_financial_errors.py -v ``` ### Run Integration Tests Only ```bash uv run pytest tests/integration/test_financial_api.py -v ``` ## Test Results Summary - **Total Tests**: 14 - **Passed**: 14 ✓ - **Failed**: 0 - **Warnings**: 1 (minor coroutine warning, does not affect functionality) ## Coverage Improvement ### Before - Financial route: Untested (0% coverage) - Error handling: Not validated - Correlation IDs: Not tested ### After - Financial route: 95.45% coverage - Error handling: Comprehensive coverage of all error paths - Correlation IDs: Validated format and presence in all error responses ## Remaining Work To achieve 100% coverage for the financial route: 1. Add test for successful response with no data (line 106) 2. Add test for property-specific report with no data (line 100) These are edge cases that would require specific mock configurations. ## CI/CD Integration Tests are configured to run automatically in CI/CD pipelines: - Pytest configuration in `pyproject.toml` - Coverage thresholds: 80% overall (configurable per-module) - HTML coverage reports generated in `htmlcov/financial/` - JSON coverage reports for automated analysis ## Benefits 1. **Reliability**: All error paths are tested and validated 2. **Debuggability**: Correlation IDs make it easy to trace errors 3. **Maintainability**: Comprehensive test suite ensures changes don't break functionality 4. **Documentation**: Tests serve as living documentation of expected behavior 5. **Confidence**: Can deploy financial endpoints with confidence ## Next Steps 1. Monitor correlation IDs in production logs 2. Add performance tests for financial endpoints 3. Add E2E tests using real Hostaway API (with test credentials) 4. Consider adding property-based tests using Hypothesis 5. Add load testing to validate rate limiting and connection pooling
