Set Jira sync

set_jira_sync
Destructive

Set how a project keeps its statuses in step with its own Jira: the direction and the pairs of statuses. Either left out keeps what is there. Moves on either side go through that side's own workflow and are never forced: a move one refuses is left undone and said on the issue (get_jira_link's 'sync'). A move made here because Jira moved is made in YOUR name from now on — whoever saves this is whom it acts for — and Jira's history names the project token's owner. Switching it on moves nothing by itself: the next change on either side does. Both sides moved before the two were compared: neither is moved, and the issue says so. The site's webhook (quicker than the five-minute poll) is set up on the screen, since its address is a secret. For whoever administers the project; needs the connection switched on, with its token.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
pairsNoThe pairs, here=there, separated by ';' or new lines: 'To Do=To Do; In Progress=In Progress; Done=Done'. A status may appear in several pairs; the first one in order is where a move goes. An empty string clears them. Omit to keep.
directionNo'off', 'both', 'from_jira' or 'to_jira'. Omit to keep.
projectKeyYesProject key, e.g. 'PM'.

A3.8/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds substantial context beyond the annotations: moves traverse each side's own workflow and are never forced, refused moves are left undone and reported on the issue, and the acting identity is the saver (Jira history names the token owner). It also discloses that omitted fields keep their current values. Remaining gap: it does not spell out that an empty pairs string wipes the mapping (only the schema says this).

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded, but the middle is dense and hard to parse ('Both sides moved before the two were compared: neither is moved, and the issue says so'). Several sentences carry essential semantics but the phrasing costs re-reads for a three-parameter tool.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a destructive, open-world mutation with no output schema, the description covers prerequisites, attribution, conflict resolution and the side effect timing well. It does not describe what the call returns on success, which is the one thing an output schema would otherwise have supplied.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and the schema already documents the 'here=there; ...' pair syntax, the direction enum values and 'omit to keep'. The description restates the pair/direction intent and the keep-on-omit default but adds no format or edge-case meaning beyond the schema, so baseline 3 is right.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Opens with a concrete verb+resource: 'Set how a project keeps its statuses in step with its own Jira: the direction and the pairs of statuses.' An agent immediately knows this writes sync configuration. It does not explicitly contrast with the sibling reads (get_jira_sync, get_jira_connection), so differentiation is only implicit.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives real preconditions: 'For whoever administers the project; needs the connection switched on, with its token,' plus 'Switching it on moves nothing by itself: the next change on either side does.' It never names a sibling as an alternative (get_jira_sync for reading, set_jira_connection for the token/site), so explicit routing is missing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
