Change a film

edit_film

Apply changes to a film, in order and all together (if one is refused nothing is written, and the answer says which and why). Shots are named by position (1 = first). Typical: set_text to write the words, set_shot to fill lists (pictures are put in by the user in the editor: open_in_editor), set_transition (and set_settings for its direction or strength), set_music, add_shot / replace_shot / duplicate_shot / remove_shot, fit_film to reach a length in seconds, use_template to start again from another template. undo_film puts back the film as it was before the call.

TDQS

A3.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description discloses important behavior beyond the annotations: changes are applied in order and atomically ('if one is refused nothing is written'), and the answer reports which change failed and why. It also states that undo_film restores the film to its prior state, which is valuable reversibility information for a non-idempotent mutation tool.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded with the core semantics: apply changes in order, all together, with atomic failure reporting. The operation list is useful but somewhat long and partial, and it slightly repeats schema-level op names, keeping it from being maximally concise.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a complex nested-schema mutation tool, the description supplies the essential transaction and recovery model, common operation examples, and pointers to relevant siblings. It still lacks explicit differentiation from overlapping sibling tools such as set_brand or rename_film, and does not describe a successful response, though no output schema exists.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the detailed per-op schema already carries parameter meaning. The description adds only the reminder that shots are named by position and enumerates some common ops, both of which are substantially covered by the schema itself.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description gives a specific verb and resource: 'Apply changes to a film'. It also clarifies scope with 'in order and all together', so the agent knows this is a batch mutation tool. It mentions undo_film and open_in_editor as related tools, but does not fully differentiate from overlapping sibling mutations such as set_brand or rename_film.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Usage is implied through typical operations and the note that pictures are added via open_in_editor, plus undo_film for reversal. However, there is no explicit when-to-use guidance against alternatives like create_film, set_brand, or rename_film, so the agent must infer the boundaries.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
