Copy artifacts

notebook_copy_artifacts

Copy finished artifacts of one notebook into another notebook of the same account, with new ids; generation is not repeated and the originals stay. Returns each copy's id, type, title and status with the id it came from. To copy a whole notebook use notebook_copy_notebook. POST /artifacts/copy.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare a non-read-only, non-idempotent, non-destructive write with open-world scope. The description adds real value beyond that by stating generation is NOT repeated and originals stay, which explains the non-destructive, non-idempotent profile, and by describing the return payload since no output schema exists.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three tight sentences, front-loaded with the core action and constraints, then sibling routing, then return shape and endpoint. No sentence is redundant.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description compensates by describing the returned fields (id, type, title, status, source id). Combined with the mutation semantics, originals-preserved guarantee, and sibling pointer, an agent has everything needed to invoke it correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so both parameters (target notebook id, artifact ids) are already documented in the schema. The description only reinforces that the ids come from a single notebook and must be finished artifacts, adding marginal meaning beyond the schema baseline.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource+scope: copying finished artifacts of one notebook into another notebook of the same account. It explicitly names the sibling notebook_copy_notebook as the alternative for whole-notebook copies, letting an agent separate the two without opening schemas.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives clear context (finished artifacts, same account, originals preserved) and routes the agent to notebook_copy_notebook for the whole-notebook case. It does not address exclusions such as unfinished artifacts or cross-account targets, but the positive guidance is explicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
