audible_charts

Read-only

Returns one page of an Audible chart — a ranked list with real chart position, price, and rating that has no equivalent on api.audible.com's public JSON API. This is an HTML scrape of audible.com/charts, a different, less stable source class than the rest of this family, though its own filters (category, access level, language, duration, Audible-Originals-only) were individually verified to actually change results. category_id, access_level, and content_type=podcasts are mutually exclusive. originals_only: Restrict to Audible Originals only. Use audible_author_charts to get Audible's top-author chart.

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the readOnlyHint/openWorldHint annotations, the description discloses that this is an HTML scrape of audible.com/charts, that it is a 'less stable source class', and that the filters were individually verified to change results — meaningful reliability and provenance context. It doesn't cover rate limits or failure modes.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

One dense but front-loaded paragraph that puts the primary purpose first and the sibling pointer last. Minor redundancy: the mutual-exclusivity constraint and the originals_only meaning are repeated from the schema, costing a sentence or two.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return shape needn't be explained. Given 8 optional params and 100% schema coverage, the description supplies the source-class caveat and filter/constraint guidance an agent needs; the main gap is failure/pagination behavior for the unstable scrape source.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3. The description restates the mutual-exclusivity rule and the originals_only meaning, but the schema already documents both (category_id's own description states the exclusivity), so little meaning is added beyond the structured fields.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Specific verb and resource ('Returns one page of an Audible chart') with the exact shape of the payload (ranked list with real chart position, price, rating). It also distinguishes itself from the rest of the family, most notably by naming audible_author_charts as a sibling for a different chart type.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It explicitly routes the agent to audible_author_charts for the top-author chart and warns that category_id, access_level, and content_type=podcasts are mutually exclusive. Clear context for selection, though it does not enumerate when to avoid the other audible_* chart/list siblings.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
