goldin_search

Read-only

Search or browse Goldin's current lot inventory by free-text keyword, category, sub_category, certification, item_type, and auction_id, in a caller-selected sort order. Every filter is optional and combines with AND semantics. All enum values come from goldin_categories -- pass the matching auction_type to both. auction_type selects Auction (default) or Fixed_Price (Goldin's separate Buy Now marketplace, with no lot numbering or bidding).

A3.9/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint/openWorldHint, and the description usefully adds AND-combination semantics and that Fixed_Price has no lot numbering or bidding. However, it claims 'every filter is optional' while the schema marks all 10 parameters required, an inconsistency that could mislead an agent about invocation constraints.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three sentences, front-loaded with the search scope, filter list, and combination semantics before the enum/auction_type caveats. Dense but each clause carries information; no obvious padding.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return values need not be explained. The description covers filter semantics, enum sourcing, and the auction marketplace distinction, but omits pagination behavior for a required Page/PageSize pair, which is a notable gap for a list-returning search tool.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0% across 10 parameters, so the description carries the burden. It names keyword, category, sub_category, certification, item_type, auction_id, sort and explains auction_type values, but says nothing about Pagination (Page/PageSize) or valid sort values, leaving gaps.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb pair ('search or browse'), a precise resource ('Goldin's current lot inventory'), and enumerates the filter dimensions. An agent can immediately distinguish this from goldin_listing (single item) and goldin_categories (enum source).

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives clear context: enum values must come from goldin_categories and the matching auction_type must be passed to both tools, and it explains Auction vs Fixed_Price selection. It does not explicitly route away from goldin_listing or goldin_suggest, so it stops short of a 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
