chewy_product_questions

Read-only

One page of a Chewy product's customer questions, each with its answers (text, author, date, staff flag, helpful count). chewy_product embeds only the first 20 questions with no way to page past them; this reaches the whole set. id is the numeric id from any chewy.com PDP URL; questions are shared across a product's variants, so any variant's id returns the same set. Each question reports answers_total alongside its answers array, so a caller can tell when answers were truncated by answer_limit. Chewy offers no sort or filter on questions, so this exposes paging only.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
idYesRequired. The numeric id from a chewy.com PDP URL, e.g. 767806 from https://www.chewy.com/<any-slug>/dp/767806. Questions are shared across a product's variants, so any variant's id returns the same set.
pageNoOptional, 1-based, defaults to 1.
limitNoOptional, 1 to 50, defaults to 20. How many questions to return per page.
answer_limitNoOptional, 1 to 20, defaults to 10. How many answers to return per question. Each question also reports answers_total so a caller can tell when answers were truncated.

Output Schema

dataYesThe tool result payload (shape varies per tool; see each tool's docs resource).

A4.4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations cover readOnlyHint and openWorldHint, so safety is already declared. The description adds real behavioral context beyond that: answers_total lets a caller detect truncation by answer_limit, questions are shared across variants, and the endpoint exposes paging only with no sort/filter. Only minor overlap with the output schema keeps it from a 5.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with purpose and return shape, then progressively adds the differentiating constraint, id semantics, and truncation note. Dense but every sentence carries information; slightly long but no filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With an output schema, annotations, and fully documented parameters, the description only needs to cover what structured fields cannot. It does so: the chewy_product relationship, variant-sharing, and truncation signaling are all present.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents id, page, limit, and answer_limit with defaults and ranges. The description reinforces the id semantics (numeric id from a PDP URL, variant sharing) but adds little the schema does not already say, matching the baseline 3.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource (retrieve a page of a Chewy product's customer questions with their answers) and explicitly distinguishes itself from the sibling chewy_product by noting that chewy_product only embeds the first 20 questions with no paging. An agent can route correctly without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly names the alternative (chewy_product) and the condition that selects this tool: 'chewy_product embeds only the first 20 questions...; this reaches the whole set.' It also discloses that no sort/filter is offered, so the caller knows paging is the only control.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
