x402 listing check

x402_listing_check
Read-only

Free. No API key. Read a public https x402 endpoint, or a payTo wallet. Free checks: 402 reply, https on resource.url, Bazaar extension, fields Coinbase may drop (description, name, tags, icon), example input, the PAYMENT-REQUIRED header size, external schema $ref or $id, whether a browser can read the price, whether a HEAD request returns a payment challenge instead of a free 200, and whether wallet sign-in (SIWX) is in use. A wallet alone could not be checked. A URL that is not an HTTP 402 endpoint could not be checked. Also run Coinbase's free validator: POST https://api.cdp.coinbase.com/platform/v2/x402/validate. Same as POST /api/v1/x402-check. A pass does not mean Coinbase will list you. We do not speak for Coinbase.

A3.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Far exceeds the annotations (readOnlyHint/destructiveHint). Discloses cost and auth ('Free. No API key.'), that it makes an external POST to Coinbase's validator, enumerates the checks performed, and adds a candid disclaimer ('A pass does not mean Coinbase will list you. We do not speak for Coinbase.'). This is unusually rich behavioral context.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded well with 'Free. No API key.' and the core action, but the middle is a dense run-on enumerating a dozen checks that would read better as a list. Information earns its place, yet the packaging is heavy.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

No output schema exists, so the description should carry return-value meaning, but it only implies pass/fail via the 'A pass does not mean...' caveat and never describes the report structure. Inputs and behavior are covered; the response shape is a real remaining gap.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100% and both parameters (url, pay_to) are fully described in the schema. The description echoes 'public https x402 endpoint, or a payTo wallet' but adds no format, syntax, or precedence detail beyond what the schema already states, so the baseline of 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific action (read/check) against a specific resource (public https x402 endpoint or payTo wallet) for the purpose of Coinbase listing readiness. Distinguishable from generic siblings like check_action or agent_readiness_check by the x402/Coinbase framing, though it never explicitly names a sibling to contrast against.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives clear operating conditions and explicit exclusions: 'A wallet alone could not be checked' and 'A URL that is not an HTTP 402 endpoint could not be checked,' plus the conditional use of pay_to 'when you do not have the URL.' It does not, however, route the agent between this and other check-family siblings.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
