List raw-material inventory

recipal_list_inventories
Read-only

Raw-material (ingredient) stock rows: quantity on hand, weeks remaining, daily consumption, quantity on order, reorder risk (safe, warning, critical), reorder level and the on-hand value. Needs an inventory plan (otherwise 403 INVENTORY_PLAN_REQUIRED). By default sorted by weeks remaining, lowest first. GET /inventories.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
qNoCase-insensitive search in the ingredient name.
pageNoPage number, from 1 (default 1). Pass the previous reply's next_page.
tagsNoOnly rows whose ingredient has ALL these tags.
archivedNo"false" = active only (default), "true" = archived only, "all" = both.
per_pageNoResults per page, 1-20 (default 20).
sort_fieldNoDefault "inventories.weeks_remaining".
supplier_idNoOnly rows linked to this supplier.
sort_directionNo"asc" (default), "desc", or "mid" (warning band first, then critical, then safe; only for weeks_remaining and risk).

TDQS

A3.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already establish that this is a read-only, non-destructive, open-world GET operation. The description adds meaningful behavioral context beyond annotations: the required inventory plan and 403 failure mode, the default sort order, and the set of fields returned. It omits some secondary behavior such as pagination mechanics, but the schema covers those parameters.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is compact and front-loads the core purpose and returned fields, followed by the prerequisite and default sort. The long field enumeration is useful but slightly dense; the endpoint reference is minor but not wasteful.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

There is no output schema, so listing the main returned fields is important and the description does that. Combined with fully documented parameters and read-only annotations, the definition gives an agent enough to call the tool correctly, though it could say a bit more about response envelope/pagination behavior.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so all eight parameters are already documented in the input schema. The description adds only the default sort behavior ('weeks remaining, lowest first'), which is largely redundant with the schema's sort_field and sort_direction descriptions; the baseline of 3 is appropriate.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly identifies the resource as raw-material/ingredient inventory stock rows and lists the key returned fields, so an agent knows what this tool returns. It does not explicitly distinguish itself from nearby siblings such as recipal_get_inventory, recipal_list_ingredients, or recipal_list_inventory_tags, which keeps it below a 5.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives a useful precondition ('Needs an inventory plan, otherwise 403 INVENTORY_PLAN_REQUIRED') and the default sort behavior, which implies it is the list/browse tool for inventory. However, it does not state when to use this versus recipal_get_inventory or recipal_list_inventory_tags, nor when not to use it.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
