List form submissions

devicemagic_list_submissions
Read-only

Submitted data of one form, newest data as stored in the form's Device Magic Database destination (it must be active on that form). Each record has form info, metadata (device, user, submitted_at, received_at, submission_id) and the answers. The reply says current_page, total_pages and total_count. Filter by from_date/to_date (yyyy-mm-dd). GET /api/forms/{id}/device_magic_database.json.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
pageNoPage number, 1-based (use total_pages from the reply).
form_idYesForm id (field `id` of list_forms).
to_dateNoOnly submissions up to this date (yyyy-mm-dd).
per_pageNoSubmissions per page, 1-100 (default 25).
from_dateNoOnly submissions from this date (yyyy-mm-dd).

TDQS

A3.9/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false and openWorldHint=true, so the safety profile is covered. The description adds genuinely useful context beyond that: the return shape (form info, device/user/timestamp/submission_id metadata, answers), the pagination envelope (current_page, total_pages, total_count), and the active-destination prerequisite.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

It is compact and front-loads the core definition (submitted data of one form) before metadata, return shape, filters and endpoint. The date format 'yyyy-mm-dd' is duplicated in the schema and the endpoint path is of marginal value to an agent, keeping it short of a 5.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

There is no output schema, and the description compensates by describing both the record structure and the paging envelope. Combined with the precondition and endpoint, an agent has what it needs to page through results correctly, with only error behavior for an inactive destination left implicit.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so all five parameters are already documented in the schema, including the yyyy-mm-dd patterns and the 1-100 per_page bounds. The description restates the date format and hints at paging via total_pages but adds no new semantics beyond the structured fields, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description names a specific resource and scope: submitted records for ONE form, with a clear note that data comes from the form's Device Magic Database destination. This clearly separates it from devicemagic_list_forms and devicemagic_get_form, though it never names those siblings explicitly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It states a real precondition for use — the Device Magic Database destination must be active on the form — plus the optional from_date/to_date filtering behavior. No alternative tool is named, but among the listed siblings there is no competing submissions-listing tool, so the gap is minor.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
