Search Sentry Events via Discover

sentry_events_search
Read-only

Search events and transactions via the Sentry Discover API. Works on raw events/transactions — different from issue search (sentry_issues_search which returns grouped issues). Supports filtering by time range, transaction name, tag, level, and custom query.

A4/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false and openWorldHint=false, so the safety profile is covered. The description adds nothing about rate limits, pagination via cursor, or result ordering, so credit is limited to the raw-vs-grouped distinction.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three short sentences with no filler, and the core capability is stated first followed by the sibling differentiation and the supported filters. Every clause carries information.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Output schema and annotations exist, so return values and safety need not be explained. The description covers the key filters but does not mention the dataset selector (errors, transactions, spans, profiles), the most consequential choice for a 14-parameter tool; otherwise it is adequate.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so every parameter, including enums, defaults and the cursor, is already documented. The description only restates the filter categories already present in the schema and adds no syntax or interaction guidance beyond it, which is the baseline case.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (search) and resource (events/transactions via the Sentry Discover API), and explicitly contrasts with the sibling sentry_issues_search, which returns grouped issues. An agent can distinguish this from the issue-based tools without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly names the alternative (sentry_issues_search) and the condition that separates them: raw events vs grouped issues. It does not address other nearby siblings such as sentry_logs_search or sentry_event_get, nor when to use a single-event lookup instead.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
