GHE Workflows: List Runs

ghe_workflow_runs_list
Read-only

List recent runs of a specific GitHub Actions workflow. Accepts workflow ID, name, or file path (e.g. "deploy.yml"). Returns status, conclusion, branch, actor, timestamps, duration, and URL per run.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
repoYesRepository name or full owner/name slug. Prefer owner/name when known so routing never depends on a workspace default.
limitNoMax runs to return (default 20, max 100)
ownerNoOptional GitHub org/user. A full repo slug (owner/name) takes precedence; otherwise the active workspace default org is used.
branchNoFilter by branch
statusNoFilter by conclusion/status (e.g. failure, success, in_progress)
workflowYesWorkflow ID, name, or path (e.g. deploy.yml)
context_idNoOptional explicit Connection Hub work context (ctx_*). Omit to use the conversation's active workspace; global Hub tools ignore it.

Output Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
okYes
dataYes
contractVersionYes
dataSchemaVersionYes

A3.6/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The annotations already establish that this is a read-only, non-destructive, non-open-world operation. The description adds the accepted workflow identifier forms and a summary of returned run fields, but it does not mention ordering, pagination beyond the schema's limit, rate limits, or permission requirements; with an output schema present, the return-field sentence adds limited behavioral context.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two tight sentences, with the core purpose front-loaded and no wasted preamble. The second sentence efficiently covers accepted identifiers and return content.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

The tool has rich structured context: complete parameter descriptions, annotations, and an output schema. The description is complete enough to support correct invocation, though it could better clarify how this differs from sibling GitHub Actions listing tools.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so all seven parameters are already documented in the input schema. The description reinforces that workflow may be an ID, name, or file path and gives a deploy.yml example, but it does not add meaning beyond the schema for repo, owner, branch, status, limit, or context_id.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource: "List recent runs of a specific GitHub Actions workflow." That is clear and actionable, but it does not distinguish this tool from nearby siblings such as ghe_actions_latest or ghe_actions_latest_jobs, so it falls short of a 5.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies when to use it by saying it lists runs for a specific workflow, and it explains the accepted workflow identifiers. However, it does not explicitly say when to choose this tool over ghe_actions_latest, ghe_actions_latest_jobs, or ghe_workflow_list, so the guidance is only implied.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
