Cloudflare zone quick status (outage)

cf_quick_status
Read-only

Quick Cloudflare zone health check for outage triage. Returns zone status (active/pending/moved), paused flag, nameservers, plan, and SSL certificate status in a single call. Use alongside dns_lookup, http_check, and cert_status during outage investigation.

TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false, openWorldHint=false), so the description's added value is the behavioral trait that all these signals are aggregated "in a single call" and that it is a lightweight triage probe. It does not disclose rate limits or failure behavior, but for a read-only diagnostic call this is solid added context.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three tight sentences: purpose first, return payload second, usage context third. Nothing is redundant and the triage framing is front-loaded.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Because an output schema exists, the description needn't enumerate return values, and its purpose/usage coverage is adequate for a two-parameter read-only tool. The one meaningful gap is sibling disambiguation from cf_zone_status, which is not addressed.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, with both zone (name or 32-char hex ID) and context_id fully documented in the schema. The description adds nothing about either parameter, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource ("Cloudflare zone health check") and enumerates exactly what comes back (status, paused flag, nameservers, plan, SSL cert status). It is clear about what the tool does, though it never distinguishes itself from the sibling cf_zone_status, which an agent could easily confuse it with.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives a clear usage context ("for outage triage", "during outage investigation") and names complementary tools to run alongside it (dns_lookup, http_check, cert_status). It stops short of stating when to prefer it over cf_zone_status or cf_zones_list, so routing between overlapping Cloudflare zone tools is left to inference.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
