Get a subscription

shop.subscription.get

Status of a subscription you pay for: status (active | past_due | canceled | expired), period_no, current_period_end, next_charge_at. From 72 h before to 72 h after current_period_end the answer carries renew {quote_id, expires_at, total_usd, period_no, pay}: pay that quote with x402 (shop.order.pay) to buy the next period; the same quote is returned while it lives, a new one once it expired. Nothing is charged automatically unless a pull is set up (pull_mode base_preauth, tempo_keychain or mpp_subscription): otherwise the buyer's agent renews by paying. pull_mode mpp_subscription (day/week plans paid on Tempo with the MPP subscription intent) shows renewal_key = the address of the key you authorized; the platform renews each period with it and pays the gas, and cancel never touches the chain (revoke the key yourself with accessKey.revoke). Once the period is over unpaid the call fails with 402 subscription_renewal_due (same renew attached); 72 h later the subscription is canceled (status_reason unpaid). Another identity's subscription is 404.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Despite annotations being sparse (readOnlyHint=false, destructiveHint=false, openWorldHint=false), the description discloses the full behavioral picture: error codes (402 subscription_renewal_due, 404 for another identity), cancellation timing, auto-charge conditions, the three pull_modes, and the chain-vs-cancel distinction. This is far beyond what the annotations convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

It is front-loaded with the resource and return fields, and every sentence carries substantive information about renewal/error behavior rather than filler. It is a dense single paragraph for a genuinely complex tool, so the length is justified, though breakpoints would aid scanning.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Even though an output schema exists (so return values need not be explained), the description still covers renewal mechanics, pull modes, failure codes, and cancellation timing. For a subscription-status tool with multiple renewal paths, nothing an agent needs to call it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters2/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

With schema description coverage at 0% for the single subscription_id parameter, the description is expected to compensate but largely does not: it never states the id format or where it comes from. The only parameter-relevant hint is 'Another identity's subscription is 404,' which implies identity scoping but leaves the parameter otherwise opaque.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description opens with a specific verb+resource ('Status of a subscription you pay for') and enumerates exactly what is returned (status enum, period_no, current_period_end, next_charge_at), so an agent knows precisely what this tool is. It also names related siblings (shop.order.pay, cancel, accessKey.revoke), differentiating the retrieval role from the mutation tools.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives rich contextual 'when' information: the 72h renewal window, when a renew quote appears, and that payment is done via shop.order.pay. However it never states an explicit exclusion or a 'use this instead of X' rule for the subscription siblings, so guidance is strong context rather than explicit routing.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
