Subscribe to Alerts

subscribe
Idempotent

Create a proactive monitoring subscription to a live-data event stream. Returns the new subscription id. Requires a Pipeworx OAuth account (anonymous + BYO cannot persist subscriptions). Supported types: "sec_8k" (8-K filings matching ticker + item codes — e.g. items:["5.02"] = officer change), "polymarket_edge" (Polymarket↔Kalshi cross-venue mispricings — params:{topic:"fed"}), "fred_series" (new FRED observations — params:{series_id:"UNRATE"}). Delivery channels: feed (always on — pull via recent_alerts or GET registry.pipeworx.io/alerts.json), and optionally email (set delivery:{email:"you@x.com"}) or sms (delivery:{sms:"+15551234567"} — phone must be verified at /account first; 10/day cap).

Auto-disabled after 10 consecutive failing runs.

A4.6/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description adds significant behavioral context beyond annotations, such as requiring OAuth, delivery channel limitations (SMS 10/day cap, webhook auto-disable after failures), and the always-on feed. It does not contradict annotations. However, the idempotentHint annotation suggests idempotency, but the description says 'Returns the new subscription id' implying each call creates a new subscription, which could be clarified. Nevertheless, the description is largely transparent.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is well-structured and front-loaded, starting with the main action, then requirements, supported types, and delivery options. Every sentence adds value without redundancy. It is concise yet thorough, fitting the tool's complexity.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Despite no output schema, the description mentions the return value (subscription id). It covers prerequisites, supported types, delivery channels with limitations, and error conditions (webhook auto-disable). For a tool with nested objects and multiple options, the description is highly complete and leaves few gaps for the agent.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters5/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The input schema has 100% coverage, but the description adds substantial meaning by providing concrete examples for each subscription type (e.g., sec_8k with ticker and items codes, polymarket_edge with topic). It also explains delivery parameters in detail, including webhook signing and phone verification requirements, far exceeding the schema descriptions.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool creates a proactive monitoring subscription to a live-data event stream. It distinguishes itself from sibling tools like list_subscriptions and unsubscribe by focusing on creation. It gives specific examples of subscription types and delivery channels, making the purpose unambiguous.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description provides clear guidance on when to use this tool (for proactive monitoring) and prerequisites (requires a Pipeworx OAuth account; anonymous or BYO accounts cannot persist subscriptions). It also lists supported types with examples. However, it does not explicitly state when not to use it or directly contrast with siblings like list_subscriptions or recent_alerts, which slightly reduces completeness.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
